Chicago Cubs 2026

Matt Shaw has shown me enough. Ick..
Blasphemy! He had an RBI in a one-run win on the 12th and contributed in other close wins as recently as in June. I'll also have you know that he is hitting in over 11% of his at-bats this month.

Looking like weather is going to be a problem for the weekend series at Boston. Saturday and Sunday it might be hard to get games in. Last night on the tv broadcast JD mentioned they might schedule a double header for Friday. The last thing the Cubs need is to have to play a double header on Monday or something weird, that would really mess with the pitching staff before the wildcard series.

we need a lot of good luck to win a series in playoffs
Was just looking at the splits for the three teams in Wild Card position (Cubs, Phillies, and Padres). Both the Cubs and Phillies perform near equally well at both home and away. The Padres are a significantly better home team (20 games over .500 at home with a losing record on the road).

The Padres are playing on fire recently, but it might not be the worst scenario to host them in a playoff series.

The NL is loaded this year compared to the AL.

Especially when contrasting the West divisions of each league. Texas and Houston are tied for 1st in the AL West at 78-79. Yeesh.

Sundays game officially moved to a Friday double header. How many pitchers do the Cubs need to get through that? If they don't get all 3 games in due to weather and the playoffs are still underdetermined they would play Boston on Monday.

The AL Central doesn't consist of a bunch of powerhouses either. But don't tell White Sox fans that.
We don't disagree (at least as of now). However, the AL West is by far the worst division in baseball this year. At least the AL Central champs will have a winning record. The Sox for sure benefited from Detroit, Minnesota, and Kansas City all slipping. It has allowed the Sox to compete for a playoff spot ahead of schedule.

Good thing the Padres play the Diamondbacks to end the season. It may come down to a Padre win there to get this team the two extra wildcard games Jed has built this team for..

Game over. Phillies lose again, Hope the Dodgers beat the Padres again.
Honestly, this particular Cubs team would be better suited to go to Atlanta in the WC round. The Cubs simply cannot play small ball, which you have you be able to do in Wrigley when it's cool and the wind is blowing in. If the Cubs can't slug, it's just an incredibly average offense. Add in the fact that they're going to be facing staff aces and it's just not a great set-up for this particular team.

If they go to Atlanta, where the weather is warmer and the ball flies better, the potential for slug is elevated.

2-26 with RISP the last two nights really is inexcusable, but when you take the long ball away.....this is kind of what you get with them.

We get punked by Gusto and Junk. Bodes well for the playoffs where the pitchers they will face will actually be good.
2 for 26 w/RISP the last 2 nights. Total joke.
Bunt or hit and run or do something.
Counting the days to Illini Basketball.
Yeah, but we are contractually bound as Cub fans to witness this mess. A long hot streak needs to ensue pretty quickly.

The only way to win has been to have a humongous lead.

Not expecting much even if we do make the playoffs. Maybe that’s the best possible setup for us.
