Chicago White Sox 2019

Dane Dunning looked good. Not ready for major innings but stuff and control were very solid for 4 innings. Great dress rehearsal for next season and getting so many youg players work with a shot at playoffs. So far so good with the caveat the best is yet to come for this season. Wondered how not having fans would affect overall game and I am enjoying watching on TV and players seem to stay pumped on competition alone.

I agree with the Dunning analysis but I believe that he has a valuable place on the club right now. Maybe out of the bullpen (though our bullpen has been good). The is with the caveat that he wouldn't be putting next season in danger since he is coming off TJ.

I wish Kopech could get a couple innings here and there, just to stay in shape for next year.
Can't wait to see him back in action. Hope he comes back 100% and has a long career.
I was a kid when Sandy Koufax pitched, and somehow, Kopech reminds me of Koufax.
Prolly just that their names both start with K and have 6 letters, right?
;)

With the injured starters hopefully returning he would be a great starter on bullpen day, and some long relief roles where possibly the big bats could get a few games back after falling behind. With Bummer out having help in bullpen getting to Colome isn't underappreciated at all. Possibly by end of season he will have worked up to longer outings and more consistency. but he sure looked great for 3 innings. Hang around and get hot at right time...that's the ticket !!!

Crosstown Classic, Game 1
White Sox 10
Cubs 1
White Sox:
- move within 1 game of first in their division
- are 5 games over .500 for first time since early 2016
- hit 6 home runs to move into first place, ahead of the Yankees
Not a bad day, I'd say!

Crosstown Classic, Game 2
White Sox 7
Cubs 4
Slipping a bit, only 5 home runs today (Abreu's first 3 HR game), which is, surely, of some solace to the Cubs. Or not:
https://twitter.com/scottmerkin
"Cubs manager David Ross on the Cubs/White Sox differential: "You see the difference in the two sides right now. I think you see an offense that's really clicking on all cylinders with a ton of confidence. And our guys are still just trying to get going." "

Not sure, but it looks like the Sox may now have moved into second place in runs scored in the American League, behind Tampa (!).

My bad, sox fans, I shouldntof gloated yesterday, and brought a frown froom above.
Yu Darvish has been great, and was again today.
Cease pitched his heart out and should have got a W under normal circumstances.
Abreu hit a HR his first at bat, and with 3 HR in his last 3 AB yesterday, became the fir Sox tohit 4 HR in a row.

I was hoping at least a win in this series and got two ...yay...This loss may be a lesson for some on this team...1 better ab, 1 better defensive play, 1 second of better focus can be all it takes to differentiate winning from losing. This team was all in in this series. First game laugher, 2nd game most breaks went Sox way...third game...there for the taking...and tough loss...lesson learned...move on...learn...At this point of season I feel Sox, solid, defensively, offensively and in bullpen. Starter need a third dependable starter from Rodon, Dunning , Gonzalez or Cease and a 4th for long playoff series. If Sox get healthy, stay healthy very dangerous team come playoffs.

Giolito no-hits the Pirates tonight. Giolito is the first pitcher in White Sox history with 10+ Ks and a no-hitter in the same game. He struck out 13 Pirates tonight.

First no-no for the White Sox since Philip Humber's perfect game back in 2012. First time Pirates have been no hit since Max Scherzer's no-no against them back in 2015.

"The Power Outage Game"

I thought for sure that last out was a hit. Thank god for Engel. I don't think Mazara would have made that play honestly.

Huge props to Mccann for calling an excellent game. He and Giolito just click perfectly together.

I saw the chance for a hit on that ball .850 and there was a "get a jump stat" that was equally impressive. didn't get to see game but follewd a bit at work on uupdates on phone lol.

Today's Game result:
White Sox 10 - Pirates 3
- Win #19
- 4 more HR
- after tonight's CLE-MIN game, Sox will either be 1.5 games out, alone in 2nd, or tied for 2nd, 0.5 game out
- Sox in 2nd place in all Majors in run differential at +41 (Dodgers at +71 !!)

Things are really looking up.

First place alone! Great game by the Sox last night, especially after being down 4-0, and then came back in the 9th to beat the Twins at their place 8-5!

That was a fun one last night.

Luis Robert the last two games has a walkoff HR, a game tying HR in the 7th and a go ahead RBI double in the 9th. Kid is already special.

I’m also glad they didn’t give up any major assets for Lance Lynn. While he’s a good pitcher, he’s not guy you mortgage the future for. I would have liked for them to add another reliever as it’s been a problem spot lately. Still, regardless of what happens the rest of the year, the Sox have bought joy in an otherwise very bleak 2020

I believe that they think Bummer will be back sooner rather than later and that is why they stood pat in the reliever role, though adding another arm wouldn't have hurt anything. I'm glad we didn't give up the farm to get someone. I think Dunning or Cease can be a good enough #3 to make noise this year anyway.

Tough one last night. Gotta tip your cap to the Twins. They were great on defense.

Wish Ricky would manage his pitchers better. That was Cordero’s 5th appearance in the last 7 games. He’s overworked and it’s showing.

Moncada is back in the lineup today. Hopefully that’ll be the boost they need. So much ugly offense last night.

I'm happy with the Lopez reassignment. I'm not ready to completely give up on him but we can't have him going out there every 5 days and being a guaranteed short outing.

Agree Cordero needs some time off.

I just hope the guy they have brought up can give us something. Never heard of him, Bernardo Flores, anyone have any idea?

This is what I could find from MLBtraderumors.com:

Flores, recalled in place of Lopez, could be an option to start a game as well. He made 15 starts for Chicago’s Double-A affiliate last year, totaling 78 1/3 innings with a 3.33 ERA, 7.9 K/9, 1.7 BB/9 and a 53.3 percent ground-ball rate. He’s yet to pitch in the big leagues, so whether his first appearance comes as a starter or out of the ’pen, that’ll mark his MLB debut. Flores isn’t considered one of the system’s elite prospects, but he ranks on the back half of the top 30 at MLB.com (19) and FanGraphs (27).

His ball has life and stays around plate. I was far from 100 % focused but watched his every pitch after first two batters he faced. Should be serviceable lefty.

Sox sweep a four game series in KC for the first time since 1997. Still in first place and now have the 2nd best winning percentage in the AL.

I believe their magic number to clinch a playoff spot is 15. Barring a collapse of epic proportions, they will be in the playoffs.

Only thing that sucked about today was Keuchel's injury. Hope it's just precautionary and nothing serious.
