I don't see any reason why we can't be relevant in football and compete at the level of Iowa or Wisconsin. If we can do that, basketball and other sports will be better off as wellThe sport of college football was always my first love, I have always been a believer in our program in the past, and have the utmost respect for Bret Bielema. And this isn't the time or the thread to really get into it.
But Brad Underwood is engaged in a fight where meaningful success and glory is possible. The other side of Kirby, well...
The best part was when Jalen Rose said that Howard was going to come in and "fix the culture" which made no sense at the time and is objectively hilarious now.'Member when Michigan made the national title game twice in 6 years then declared themselves back because they hired one of the Fab 5 who had never been a head coach before?
Football still pays the bills even at a place like Illinois. The whole NIL fund got north of 65+ million in the last month. We have enough for both.
Unfortunately I see this as more of a moment of being DePaul to a level of relevancy. IMO recruiting Chicago just got harder. Great move by DePaul.Holtman to DePaul ---- where coaches go to die
Imagine all the good I could do with $65M. I could wallpaper my house with OLED TVs.Football still pays the bills even at a place like Illinois. The whole NIL fund got north of 65+ million in the last month. We have enough for both.
Larry Gies is the Founder and CEO of a Chicago private equity firm, Madison Industries, which is one of the largest and most successful privately held companies in the world (www.madison.net). He and his wife Beth are both U of I graduates and in 2017 they donated $150 MILLION (Illinois' largest single gift ever!) to the U of I's Business School at which time it was renamed the Gies College of Business. He gave a radio interview to Brian Barnhart/Deon Thomas at halftime of the recent Purdue Senior night game in which he specifically lauded Luke Goode for graduating from the Gies College of Business as a student-athlete in only 3 YEARS(!) and went on to mention that Luke had just won a significant award as a result of some student competition that was held by Gies. I know that Luke has not contributed as much as we all expected him to on the court this season, but I couldn't help thinking while listening to the radio that Luke might be the last true student-athlete that we see on an ILLINI basketball team, given NIL money, transfer rules etc. Hope not.Yes. He was honored during purdue game and received a nice ovation.
And then use the rest on your power bills!Imagine all the good I could do with $65M. I could wallpaper my house with OLED TVs.
he wont be the last, but the days of student athletes playing and graduating in 3-4 years and doing well at both are going away .Larry Gies is the Founder and CEO of a Chicago private equity firm, Madison Industries, which is one of the largest and most successful privately held companies in the world (www.madison.net). Thank you!If you ignore football for too long it’ll be too far gone with the way NIL is moving right now
Just one natty.
They should name a sports facility on campus after her.He and his wife did donate about 2 mil.
His wife is loaded
No need to beat around the bush Pru...just tell us how you really feelscUM will always be scum , no matter who their coach is ........got rid of coward and harbaugh leaves for the NFL and the next coaches will still be scUMbags to me...........arrogance and cowardice permeates through that scUMmy program now that Sanderson saw the light of the Fighting Illini program and joined in the nick of time to save his soul from the scUM sucking scavengers of the black death horde.......................
Pru rarely beats around the bush...No need to beat around the bush Pru...just tell us how you really feel
One might say he does...?Pru rarely beats around the bush...

Perhaps my favorite student-athlete at the U of I was Jack Ingram from the memorable 2004-2005 ILLINI basketball team. Jack was an electrical engineering student and the first big man off the bench who played his best basketball for the ILLINI during the NCAA Tournament, posting his three highest scoring games as an Illini during the team's run to the title game. He had a career-high 12 points in the second round win over Nevada, nine points in the Final Four win over Louisville, and then poured in 11 points and pulled down a season-high seven rebounds while playing a career-high 30 minutes in the National Championship game against North Carolina due to James Augustine's foul trouble.he wont be the last, but the days of student athletes playing and graduating in 3-4 years and doing well at both are going away .
it is sad , really
Have you seen the movie “Seven”?I feel like we should send flowers or something, to say thank you for all Juwan did for the beloved.
What would be an appropriate gift?
