May’s buyout, should he leave for another job, starts at $5 million and decreases each of the next four years, from $4 million to $2 million to $1 million to $500,000 …

$4 or $5 million ain’t nothing to IU …
That completely floors me that Michigan didn't put a sky-high buyout in May's contract, particularly if he moved to another Big Ten school.

But perhaps May knew he had Michigan over a barrel and was able to get that buyout negotiated. If that's the case, May's agent did a hell of a job.

Iowa will open up too. I would say their list would be Jans, DeVries, McCollum.

Don’t count out Steve Forbes on that one …

Devries also has to pay $6 million to WVU if he leaves before 2028 … Which isn’t a crazy buyout but still a hurdle …

McCollum would be a finalist … Think it’ll be him or Forbes …

Shoutout Klutch Sports more specifically Andy Miller … Lol …

No secret Dusty wanted the IU job last year … Low buyout makes it easy to pivot off Woodson after a prove it year and bring Dusty to IU …

This also could be significant for us as there is a certain Assistant Coach there who is VERY open to the idea of reuniting with Brad …

In other words, Michigan probably needs to have a new short list ready. Assuming most of May's top choices follow him to IU, I can't imagine that's going to be an overly attractive position unless there's some big NIL money for basketball.

I heard John Groce could be a candidate too! IU couldn't believe we ever let him go!

John Groce is an ELITE MAC level coach … He knows it … He has no desire to go anywhere …

They actually just moved into a new house last month and his family is doing well …

Same thing with his brother Travis Steele … They both know they fit the MAC really well … Way better than high major and less headaches … Both having awesome seasons …

I listed candidates in an earlier post … Their AD has already reached out a little quietly to some people and agents I know and seeing who would be interested …

They’re preparing like they could be in search mode … IU has already been contacting Dusty’s agent *allegedly* … Lol …

Yeah I don't think it makes much sense for Devries anyway that's a lateral jump at best. WV has higher upside?
I gotta say I always see the Forbes name but I don't get the hype? I know Wake was a dump to take over, but the ACC has been down anyway.

I wish …

Realistic names for Michigan … Chris Jans … Will Wade … Richard Pitino … Ben McCollum … Porter Moser …

Me today . . . :)

It sounds like it would be more of a moving back home to Iowa situation for DeVries
It'll be interesting to see what DeVries does if Iowa is interested. I mentioned this in the previous carousel thread, but his Iowa ties run awfully deep. Grew up in Aplington, about 90 minutes northwest of Iowa City. His brother Jared played for Ed Thomas at Aplington-Parkersburg (Jared is one of the four NFL players to come out of A-P, which is pretty wild given the entire district is currently about 800 students). Played basketball at Northern Iowa while his brother played football at Iowa. While he coached at Drake, his son was part of one of the best high school basketball teams Iowa's ever produced (Waukee with both Sandfort brothers playing - that team sometimes just looked like it was playing HORSE during games, including one state tournament game that I called play by play for).

Forbes has developed some really, really talented guards … And he’s not got as much NIL as some people think … He’s taken transfers that weren’t doing much (Sallis, Miller, Appleby, Alondes Williams) and really turned them into elite lever guards … LaRavia is in the league … Developed Andrew Carr …

And I think he could keep Iowa relevant … Not top of the Big Ten … Garza and the Murray brothers just simply aren’t walking through that door again … But definitely upper half …

Man, I just thought about this regarding DeVries - what if TJ is poached by a school like UNC? I know one poster (forgot who said this, but a hat tip to who did say it) that UNC should be all over Otzelberger if they let Davis go.

You could have a bidding war for DeVries between Iowa State and Iowa, and I'd put my money on ISU in that case given the current states of the programs and their relative positions in their respective conferences. According to Google Maps, Hilton Coliseum is 84 miles from Aplington-Parkersburg High School (I know that's technically in Parkersburg, but I used it for a common reference point). Carver-Hawkeye Arena is 109 miles from A-P HS.

TJ may have zero desire to leave Ames, even for a program like UNC. But if he does, we could very well have a spicy narrative for the Iowa City-Cedar Rapids and Des Moines area stations to cover . . .

This could be me in the Des Moines area watching this unfold.

IU wants a winner … They don’t care about baggage at this point …

And if it ain’t IU hiring Beard … It’ll be someone else … The charge was dropped …

IU wants May … They’ve made it clear …
They don’t care about baggage? Bruce Pearl come on down.

It's still shocking to me that this did not end his career. Is he a good basketball coach? Of course, one of the best. But if he were coaching a team I rooted for, I'd have a real hard time with it. Some things are more important than wins
I'm not shocked a school like Ole Miss would give him a shot.

IU obviously is considering it, but if I'm Adidas do I want him coaching a flagship program?

The charges were dropped … She essentially says it didn’t happen …

Now I’m not saying people should or shouldn’t believe her … But she’s saying it didn’t happen … Charges were dropped … That’s the facts people have to go off of that make hiring decisions …

Adidas does not care about nothing but money and winning …

See: Pitino at Louisville … Self at Kansas … Those guys get/got whatever they want from Adidas …

They want WINNERS and kids signing Adidas shoe deals in the league …

They’re no bastion of morality.
Honestly, I think they’d probably turn a blind eye…like everything else…until it hurt their bottom dollar. (It’s b’uisness Wheezy.)

It’s seldom talked about (and for good reason)…and also it is a complicated history…but the founders: (Dassler Bros.) WERE card carrying Nazis. Just Sayin…

Fast forward to today…. Adidas did basically nothing when Kanye West declared: “He can literally say anti-Semitic sh*t and they cannot drop me”…all Adidas did was “put it in review.” They completely stood by him for all his other shenanigans; up to that point.

Not that Nike is any/much better…what with their progressivist ad campaigns and pro-Kaepernick-equality rhetoric and the like…meanwhile they have exploitative sweatshops all over the world.
