You can also look at '97-'06 as your benchmark. Coming off an NIT season in '96, we proceeded to have over the next 10 years

9 tourney appearances
1 Final game appearance
2 elite 8's
4 Sweet 16's
No first round exits
5 Big 10 titles

A 50% conference championship win rate is unrealistic, but the other metrics are all reasonable objectives for our program
Agree, however, BU seems to be in the mold of actually not wanting to use this job as a steppingstone, like Lou. Not that Brad doesn't use it for contract reasons like a steppingstone, but that is just good business. Lon and Bill were never going to stay here.

Howard stunk as a coach. Illini beat them like a drum. Comparing Underwood to Howard is not a good idea. I have no idea what the point of some of these posts is, nor does anyone else. Sheesh! :)

Something about getting a shoeshine box, and going home, and such, comes to mind.

Wade would be an option … Think the 5 most realistic candidates before dominoes start falling would be Chris Beard, Sean Miller, Will Wade, Ben McCollum and Dusty May if IU doesn’t hire him …

Again - I don’t think we fire Brad … But Brad leaving wouldn’t shock me … But I think it’s unlikely …
You think one of the five most realistic options is we poach UMs coach after he may win them a conference title in year one? That seems wild to me.

Positive! Josh is smart guy with a level head on his shoulders that is why he is where he is. A large part of that is that he does not make kneejerk reactions like you and many do on here (including me sometimes). He sees the bigger picture.

Losing your players in July is better than mid-season. Miller had 4 months to adjust to not having those players. Illinois is having to rebuild the plane as we are flying.

He's a very good coach ... We are a better program than Michigan and can pay him more, give him more NIL, and better facilities ...

IU is going to try to poach him ... His buyout is only $5 million ...

I'm pretty sure you could take any high level coach, pick out a 3 or 4 year period, and find that they underperformed in March. It's a crapshoot.

People were questioning BU after the 22/23 season. He learned and adjusted, and had a great year last season. Let's see what he learns and fixes about this year. I'm guessing next season is going to be fun.
To this point, the only way you can consistently underperform in the tournament (looking at you Rick Barnes) is to consistently have good teams and get high seeds.

Your second scenario was basically Quin Snyder at Missouri before the wheels fell off.

Ultimately, you're judged on NCAA tournament success, which I think is misguided. It's just hard for me to think you're success is judged on a single-elimination tournament where matchups and/or one bad game can greatly distort what has occurred over the course of an entire season. We have to remember that a season like what UConn had last season where the best team essentially goes wire to wire to win a title just does not happen that often.

I think Purdue and Painter have been in this category of receiving fairly high seeds and then disappointing early exits from the tourney as well

I don’t think anyone’s giving up on the players …

But in the words of Shauna Green “no one gives a 💩 if you’re sick or hurt” … Figure it out …

Fact of the matter is this … Brad screwed up in recruiting so we have ZERO front court depth … Booth, Tre, Ben all missed evals … DGL should be playing over Kylan … Period … Jakstys belongs at EIU … Nothing personal against the kid but we’re at a different level as a program at this point …

And he told the Fears we don’t want you not ONCE but TWICE … I’d take both of them right now …

He let Chester and TA walk out the door and only replaced one of them … How many “top 10” programs would try and steal our assistants if they had an opening outside of Antigua ?

And let’s just call it what it is … His in game coaching is not good … It’s not been good since the mastermind that is Stephen Gentry left …

Brad said last year about a million times how much he enjoyed coaching an old team … Get old … Stay old … And he goes out and went young AGAIN …

It’s not just our guys being sick … There is a multitude of things here that are simply not good enough if we are truly a “top 10 program” IMO …
I agree with nearly everything you said except for two parts.

1. I don't hate the idea of getting an in-state guy or two like Jakstys. Their are 15 scholarships available now and I don't think you can realistically fill that out with Big10 level talent.

I think you could realistically get a project type local kid willing to buy into thats willing to redshirt, develop, practice, and be a good locker room influence. You could fill out the 11th-15th roster spots with guys like that and most may never actually contribute on the court but could help keep some consistency in the program and maybe you get lucky and someone develops.

2. I don't necessarily agree with telling Fears no twice but I get the hesitance on playing a 17 year old that looked really thin and probably isn't as tall as his listed 6'4. Credit to Fears because he has clearly put a ton of work in the weight room and looks noticably more filled out and stronger than he did when he committed to Oklahoma, but a lot of times reclassing guys don't always make an impact(especially smaller guards).

I would have probably wanted Fears on a reclass if he was willing to come with no promise of playing time and potentially just using it as a "redshirt" developmental year where he doesn't see the floor much if he doesn't earn it. Though you would run the risk of paying him NIL only to transfer if he didn't play enough.

We told Jeremy we didn’t want him after recruiting him hard and pushing for the commitment … Fears goes to Brad and says he’s ready to commit and gets told that we’ve changed our mind … That was a flat out mistake by Brad …

Geoff fixed the relationship with the family … Which I seriously don’t know how he did that and he deserves a TON of credit for that … Landed Jeremiah … Just to be told to go tell the family we don’t want Jeremiah because we don’t like taking re-class kids … And we go out and take a re-class kid anyways …

That’s my problem with that situation … When a top 50 kid nationally who’s also from your state and is a freaking MCDAA wants to come play for you … Unless there’s some academic or legal reason … We shouldn’t be saying no … Period …

So, looks like we won't get him if he ends up portaling, is what your saying?

Smooth move there, Brad!

If indeed true, agree with the top. With the second, I know he's doing well at Oklahoma (worst team in SEC), but I'm not taking Jeremiah over Riley.

Tyler has been grounded for his recent offensive prowess. Daddy Brad may have taken his phone as part of the consequence

Jeremiah would probably want a ton of playing time and nil guarantees and even now with hindsight the decision to go with KJ was the right one over Jeremiah. Will is also technically now in his right class because of how schooling in Canada works.
I’ve now seen the other part of this of how it’s between Jeremiah and and KB. It would still be smarter to go with the junior with two years of HM experience over the 17 year old. Whether it panned out or not is a different matter. We also don’t know how happy Jeremiah would be playing as a secondary ball handler.

Don’t forget @DB11Headband@sharpshot16 … And I’m sure I’m forgetting someone else .. All provide good info …

@illini0440 isn’t quiet … Just may not be talking on here … Lol …
