I can't remember if he started or not, but didn't Tyler play some decent minutes at one time because, "he knew Brad's offense!?"![]()
Feelers are great, but not worth much if your job opens after they're hired.Being proactive can also mean that he has feelers out now (and basically at any time) and has a pretty good pulse on what other coaches on his list would have interest in any given off-season. It doesn't have to mean that we are the first domino.
If only to p.o. Hoosier Nation, Josh should open up the vault and execute a #BradSwap…

Do you think Josh says Tyler and or Hamer gotta go? Although i think was utter nonsense, this years team was being compared to the 89 squad that had 2 lottery picks and 5 guys drafted. Now that crap has changed as we are only a few more loses from playing our way on the bubble! We better beat Iowa at home.K State does not have more NIL than us lol. They aren't far off, but that's simply not true. We have the second or third most in the B10, which is way more money making than the big 12.
For the love of god, this fanbase is trying to force Brad out. The likelihood he leaves is slim to none.
Just a logistic question but what’s the difference between buyout and what is listed here?
Exactly!!! Excellent point!!!We can afford both … We simply didn’t capitalize on the move to 5 assistants … I made a post here and maybe someone can find it but I said this is the time to take advantage of this rule and gain a leg up, get some guys in here that can coach X&O and/or bring in a guy who’s tied in with elite talent …
Texas Tech uses this rule to their advantage … As does Ole Miss … Instead we promoted Hamer and Tyler …

I have a hard time believing a school is paying a $15 million buyout to the U of I to get Underwood. That’s a lot of money for a 61 year old coach who has made 1 Sweet 16 and doesn’t know Xs and Os and isn’t particularly well liked by his fanbases, players or coaches
We promoted them but they both still get paid relative peanuts. We aren't going to get an Xs and Os guru for those types of pay. Shoot, we couldn't even keep TA for 2-3x that much pay and he isn't even an Xs and Os person. We can afford both … We simply didn’t capitalize on the move to 5 assistants … I made a post here and maybe someone can find it but I said this is the time to take advantage of this rule and gain a leg up, get some guys in here that can coach X&O and/or bring in a guy who’s tied in with elite talent …

It would be the greatest troll in all of B1G basketball if JW somehow got Stevens after he said he has no interest in coaching IU.If only to p.o. Hoosier Nation, Josh should open up the vault and execute a #BradSwap…

They have a big donor that made his money in bull semenHow in the world can Kansas State have more NIL than Illinois? Are farms in Central Kansas really that much more valuable?

Ultimately, assistants have egos just like the players and the head coach. If you get too lopsided on a single coach, it can make it harder to attract or retain other good coaches if you aren't willing to compensate them comparably. They start feeling undervalued and/or underappreciated.
So I really don't know if paying that much for one coach is worth it, no matter how good they are, if it inhibits your ability to find and keep 4 other top notch coaches. What if we had 3 coaches making $500k-600k instead of 1 making $900k and a bunch making $100k-300k? What's the better strategy? Hell if I know!
This may be the hottest of all hottest hot takes EVER!I have a hard time believing a school is paying a $15 million buyout to the U of I to get Underwood. Sure, which is why you just kind of keep tabs on the situation. @Indy Illini Fan (allegedly) has a sense about how various high-level coaches feel about various jobs around the country. You think JW doesn't also have that kind of information and/or a group of people tasked with keeping tabs on that kind of intel? Of course he does. He has a constantly-evolving shortlist and his organization/circle is going to be constantly keeping their ears open for intel on how those coaches feel about our and other jobs around the country. They'd be silly not to, especially if your current coach has a history of constantly having his own feelers out there (like BU allegedly does).Feelers are great, but not worth much if your job opens after they're hired.
If we put out feelers to X coach right now, he's going to say he's interested. But if "first domino school" (i.e. Indiana) can make him an offer immediately after the season, and Illinois' job doesn't even come open until a few dominos later, we miss out.
I don't think that's how Josh rolls.
Makes sense so really this would be a very mutual decision rather than “Brad leaving”We would be willing to negotiate Brad’s buyout if he chose to leave … Based on what I’ve been told …
Looks like Weber was just outside the top 20 in 2011. He made about $1.5 million, and according to this list, Geno Auriemma was #20 at $1.6 million.1 - Agree. This has rubbed me the wrong way every time he's done it.
2 - Fair point. Going to guess that Henson and Weber were not top 10 paid coaches. Though I have no idea.
3 - Also fair. He's finished the season ranked in the top 10 twice since 2020. So he's slightly behind on that metric too. Would have to finish top 10 two or three more times in the next four years to hit that mark. This would be a pretty unprecedented feat though. Since before BU got here we only finished in the top 10 11 times since 1949. But back to your second point, how many of those were top 10 paid coaches?

Narrator: "He didn't."I think the moral of the story here is that I should really get back to work.
Indy, do you think Arkansas St. Head Coach Bryan Hodgson will go somewhere. I know LaTulip and others rave about him. I heard you like him too. I'm not saying here but a few years ago it was Will Wade and now I hear Hodgsin being talked about an up and coming coach. He is only 37, seems to have done well everywhere and is earning his stripes by recruiting and winning some games vs teams that should beat his squad.Bingo …
In general it is best practice to have ideas of succession planning for any job as an employer, as is the best interest for an employee to have an understanding of the job market (or at least get a sense of it). If not, you give away any leverage you may have. I would be highly disappointed if Josh did not have a few names lined up as possibilities should an opening arise (for whatever reason). That is why I know Josh will have a suitable replacement should Brad leave this offseason. If it is true that the Illini are willing to negotiate any potential buyout should be all you need to know about how Josh feels about the situation. He has to feel confident in his ability to get a suitable replacement.Sure, which is why you just kind of keep tabs on the situation. @Indy Illini Fan (allegedly) has a sense about how various high-level coaches feel about various jobs around the country. who does Whitman have that works under him that he trusts with these kinds of things? That’s EXACTLY how Josh rolls … He just may not be the one putting out the feelers himself until he officially has an opening …
I have to ask… did Hamer sleep with your girlfriend or something? Did he literally piss in your corn flakes? Did he pick on you in grade school? Look… mad props for your insights and information, and our defense certainly leaves a lot to be desired, but this seems… personal.I know about 25 HS coaches who can coach circles around Tyler and Leggings boy who would do it for 100k a year …
I could give twohow much recruiting they do … I’d be fine with zero recruiting … I know they can freaking coach …
We pay Orlando $900k to get us freaking players … Let him and Geoff cook on that … Let these other guys coach …
Makes sense... Alan thought we were playing soccer by kicking balls instead of shooting ballsYes he did … Brad played him over Alan Griffin …
