But can anyone tell me what recruiting connections or offensive schemes/ideas that Tyler would have that his father doesn't already possess?

Remind me what was so tactically brilliant about Groce's time here again? I seem to remember a lot of not having any kind of offensive scheme other than some token pick and roll action and passing the ball around the perimeter until Malcolm would bail us out.

I'm just as unhappy with the current state of our coaching bench overall as most everyone else. But people need to stop being delusional.

We're talking X's and O's coaching, not recruiting. Brad has recruited much better than Groce. That's undeniable. Who would I rather have to coach my team if I had to choose between Groce and Brad? I would choose Brad, the better recruiter. I think Bruce Weber is a better X's and O's coach than both of them, but I would still take Brad over him, because at some point, you have to be able to recruit good players for a chance to win. If they had the exact same talent, I would take Weber to coach my team over Brad. The same coaching issues I saw with Groce, I see with Brad: Doesn't make adjustments, stubborn to a fault, etc. (See Coleman Hawkins's comments about the UConn game). That's why I'm questioning if, in fact, Brad is a better X's and O's coach than Groce. By the way, I've been watching Illinois basketball since the 80s.

1) Given the disaster of Skyy, it may have been better. If nothing else, it would have been more entertaining. Podz was a defensive hole at SC. Big10 guards would have abused him. I'm not sure he goes pro after a year if he stays.

2) There is a similarity. One of the teams runs it a whole lot better. More movement. Crisper cuts. Better spacing. Sharper interior passes. They also make multiple major adjustments per quarter.

Don't say that around the guys on The Boardroom podcast. They'll accuse you of not knowing ball or being too reactionary. According to them correlation equals causation and since he's been with the program since 2019 he's the reason we've been successful the last 6 years 🙄

An even bigger difference in the Illini and GS is that they have multiple guys who can really stroke it from 3.

Why does Sean McVay have an OC? It’s just about different ideas, different ways to do the same thing. Everyone has a different view on how they see things. More than one way to skin a cat….All these coaches know ball…it’s just hey maybe we try it this way, or I saw so and so run this action a certain way. The young guys have been around a lot of new age basketball and have a different view on things and the way actions can be run.

What connections does Tyler have in the recruiting world that his Dad doesn't?

What coaching experience does he have outside of Illinois? Has he coached for a Press Virginia style or a high flying offense like Alabama?

Does he have recruiting contacts that he built over years on the East Coast or in Florida?

What does he bring to the table that differs from what is inside the program already?

The answer is nothing.

Can he be a phenomenal student of the game and use every waking hour studying the game? Sure. That's not what I asked
