Ben Johnson is a victim of a lack of NIL at Minnesota. To be honest, what he has done at Minnesota is remarkable given how little he has to work with. A year ago, there was an article that reported that Minnesota's NIL budget is 1/4 of the top schools like Illinois. I'm sure that hasn't changed much. If any coach in the B10 has underachieved relative to their NIL budget, look no further than the Mike Woodson's and the Jake Diebler's of the conferenceB10 is getting ridiculously competitive with 18 teams.
UCLA and Oregon are perennial top 20 teams.
For past 5 years Illinois, Purdue, Wisconsin and Michigan State have been all been in and out of top 10.
Michigan is greatly improved under May. Nebraska has improved significantly under Hoiberg.
Even Northwestern made NCAA multiple times.
The B10 and SEC TV contracts combined with large alumni base for NIL gives a financial base that is tough to beat.
Ben Johnson has only made one NIT in 3 years. He looks like at 15-16 he might make it again. The transfer portal and NBA early entry makes it tough to slow build.
I don't see any reason to give Ben a 5th year. There has been no upward trend and his recruiting has been mediocre. He need to lure Dain Dainja back to Minneapolis. It might be the NIL$ just are not there.
I got danned once. Badge of honor.Damn. I was hoping he got Danned
I’m not worried about Brad leaving because we have Josh Whitman. I trust Josh to find us the right replacement for Underwood if he decides to leave. Mike Thomas was the cause of Illinois fall off he was a terrible Athletic Director that Brought Illinois Tim Beckman and Groce. Your Athletic Director makes or breaks your athletic programs
I don’t get the Will Wade love.
TA is not influencing Morez on anything. TA doesn’t even have a job at another school. Morez is not going anywhere. Morez is Chicago and Illinois through and through
Although I’m not an Underwood fan I don’t see him leaving Illinois for Texas . Texas is not a basketball school . Football is king in the state of Texas. Texas basketball is Kevin Durant the end.
New jersey?Purgatory.
Once? Ummm, might take me both hands...lol. Even got a borrowed account banned once, haha. I remember my very 1st ban quite vividly. I capitalized the first three letter of the word assume once in reply to a post and woke up Danned! Dan and I both have mellowed out a quite a bit over these past 20 years. The end of the Weber reign and the entirety of the Groce years were pretty harsh, and fun (sometimes).I got danned once. Badge of honor.
This … How many other coaches can say this ???
Definition of never rebuilding … Only reloading …
He’s getting former top 100 kids to go to McNeese State for a can of Pepsi, some peanuts and half a cookie …
That sure doesn't sound like a "strong-@$$ offer"!This … How many other coaches can say this ???

I agree that Brad ultimately wouldn't leave Illinois for Texas but let's not act like Illinois is the far superior destination. Over the last 25 years Texas has been better in just about every metric including NCAA appearances, Round of 32's, Sweet 16's, Elite 8's and NBA players. And pretty much dead even if you want to look at the all time histories as well.Although I’m not an Underwood fan I don’t see him leaving Illinois for Texas . Texas is not a basketball school . Brad has established a program here. He's not going to Texas. He's getting to be in his 60s now. I fully believe he has his sights set on retiring as an Illini coach within the next 10-13 yrs if he sustains success for the next decade. He's been here for 8 years now. He's 61. He's not going to start over elsewhere unless he gets firedI agree that Brad ultimately wouldn't leave Illinois for Texas but let's not act like Illinois is the far superior destination. Talking shyte, then looking up facts later...hmm...weird.I just looked up Will Wade’s resume and I’m not impressed at all. At ALL . Will Wade hasn’t won anything significant his entire head coaching career. Plus he was cheating that’s why he was getting players in the Pre NIL era. What can he do in the NIL era now that everyone can pay players? If Underwood leaves I’m not interested in Will Wade. I like Sean Miller . Sean Miller has 4 elite 8s and 4 Sweet 16s at two different schools on his resume. He’s only 56 years old and he’s knows the Midwest. He also recruited and coached high caliber players that are currently in the NBA.
Depends on the cookie. That sure doesn't sound like a "strong-@$$ offer"!![]()
I thought @Indy Illini Fan said earlier this week that Pitt had no money available to pay Capel’s buyout if they wanted to fire him.So if Xavier loses to Marquette and gets left outside the tourney again this year, does Pitt come and offer to rescue Sean Miller from the hot seat?
If you're talking about Brad. I thought they put in a significant buyout poison pill in his contract specifically for KSU.Are we sure though that it's Texas that's the destination if he leaves? K-State has also been discussed here and might make sense. They've been really disappointing this season.
I heard that Bill Self never paid any player.
