id like to ask brad about how cutting up film for womans basketball qualifies you to coordinate a defense in the big 10.

That's impressive and I'm happy for him (I really mean that. I'm not in the business of being jealous or poo pooing on someone's success). BUT how did he get his job with Illinois in the first place? Was it strictly off merit or was it because his dad is the head coach?

Under extremely different situations and actually got experience AWAY from his dad. The only part of their career paths that are the same is the GA part.

Kellen cut his teeth as an Assistant elsewhere.
He cut his teeth elsewhere because he literally had to. His dad was fired by Indiana and given a show cause, making him essentially un-hirable in college hoops for five years.

Who knows if he would ever actually left Kelvin if he was never fired, but I assume he would not because he was right back with him the second Kelvin got the Houston job.

Also, do you know who the head coach at Appalachian State was when Kellen was an assistant there? Jason Capel, the brother of Jeff Capel who Kellen was a GA for at Oklahoma (Kellen's alma mater) after his dad was fired from Indiana.

Kellen Sampson does appear to be a great assistant but every job he has ever received in basketball is because of nepotism.

I'm not on Twitter/X, but if I were, the first thing I'd do is create the account @hamersleggings ...oh what fun that would be. If that account already exists, I'll bite the bullet and sign up.

The players that aren't "me guys" like Tyler. Tyler got into it with Tre because Tre wanted to be in ball screen actions shooting mid-range jumpers. Same goes when Rez and DGL didn't get the roles they wanted. Tyler is trying to win games.

I asked 2 different players about Tyler and they said he's well liked and helped lots of guys understand basketball at a deeper level this year, this rumor has to be put to rest.

Side note if his last name wasn't Underwood EVRYONE WOULD BE SALIVATING OVER THE FACT THAT OUR FIFTH AC, THAT WE PAY $120,000, has a top 20 offense. ONE HUNDRED FREAKING TWENTY K. It's insane to me the Tyler hate.

Side side note: We lose more games if we give those three players what they want. Point freaking blank. Stop the Tyler hate. Blame Tim for promising those guys roles they didn't get.

Rant over. Peace.
Yeah, I've wondered for a while about the dynamics and the age difference.

On the board it's more about straight-up nepotism. On the court I've wondered if it's less about the last name per se and more about "daddy's little boy who is only a couple years older than me ain't gonna tell me how to play" (from the 'me guys').

Thanks for the info.

In that case, Tyler would do best for himself -- in terms of his own career development -- of taking a role like one of those. It is best for him to get experience outside his father's shadow.

I've had the same thought. Coleman was literally ON THE ROSTER with him in 2020-2021 and then "playing for him" as an AC in 2023-2024.

Are you unaware of the actual problems that happened with some of the "decent" assistants??? The problems have been well documented here

What if I told you Tyler has been offered more than he makes here for both an NBA role and a college AC role in the past year and turned both down?

I’d say he should’ve jumped to the NBA … And I’d say Brad’s dumb for not encouraging his son to advance his career …

But it’s not shocking at all he got offered more $$$ … He’s not making a ton here …

It seems like the ONLY thing all the insiders agree upon is that Hamer = fired.. If it's that obvious, what the heck is Underwood doing?

Not getting the job done …

It’s real easy …

HEY HAMER …

So the facts are that he started as a GA, had 5 years of non-nepotism hiring as an Assistant and then after 7 years in College Basketball he came back to Houston to work with his dad?

The Capel stuff isn’t nepotism for Kellen. His College coach must of recognized that his PG at Oklahoma was a quality asset and recommended him to his brother. Not nepotism.

So Tyler, please tell your dad that most of us still have faith in him, but Hamer needs to go.

Turning a 10th place team into conference champions in 3 years is mediocre? Huh?
I’ll take the heat for being too harsh and using mediocre to describe his resume. I think I was more surprised he was a candidate at place like Villanova. I also think highly of Eric Olen. But I can admit being wrong on how I view someone.

To clarify, they're saying Hamer should be fired, not that he is, unless I missed it somewhere.
