I have been told to expect at least one position to open up on our staff ... Potentially two ...

Also expecting a Lunney extension to be announced shortly after the season ...

(1) Awesome to keep Lunney. Him + Altmyer back makes it that much easier to get a dynamic WR from the transfer portal.

(2) Miller seems like the obvious one to "seek other opportunities". A second one would make me a little squeamish because there's a lot more guys I would want to keep than discard.

Lunney and Henry are obvious (coordinators, continuity, improvement from both this season). Jamison and Parker would both really hurt to lose, could be stars in another year or two. Discher did excellent work with special teams this year. Stepp was also excellent in his first year and might show more of his recruiting chops this offseason. The remaining three names (Sintim, McDaniel, and Ward) would be the most dispensable, but I'm also content with them coming back. I would heavily on the outs with the McDaniel hire from the beginning at LBer was not great, but they ended with a much stronger showing.

Purdue should take a page out of Illinois’ playbook AGAIN, this time hiring another former Arkansas head coach…

Bonus here is the ‘extracurricular’ portion of the resume would include what they seem to look for.
Isn't that part of the "other duties as assigned"?

(Sorry, couldn't resist)

My guess would be Ward. He’s done a good job with the rb’s but I would think we would want more recruiting from that position

Corey Patterson will be looking for work. 🤣
I think Bret likes Thad alot based on the way I've heard him talk about him, but yes definitely need more recruiting from that spot.
You want more recruiting but want to give up Thad? Doesn't make much sense. He was the lead on Valentine and sealed the deal with Boyd.....RB has been a low priority on the recruiting trail the past 2 years as well.

I don't particularly want to cut him loose. Wasn't aware of who he was the lead on. He works in silence since the days of "littyville".

If we're making 2 likely coordinator changes, I agree with you that if it's us moving on from someone, it almost has to be Bart. Our miss rate on prep OL recruits is just not where it needs to be, and even from a development standpoint there's questions there. I will say credit to him with the improvement in our ability to pass protect this year, but he still seems like the weak link on the staff.

As for the other? I'm thinking possible poaching? Maybe Discher? He's been really good for us on Special Teams, still youngish, and has a great career track record thus far. Maybe one of the big boys sniffing around?

If not a poach, I question how firm Henry's position is. Don't get me wrong, there was obvious improvement there, but I wonder if Bret might have someone else in mind.

what timeline are we expecting these changes to shake out?

Henry is not going anywhere

which i'm honestly fine with. how many nfl players did we have on that 2022 defense, 6 of our starting 11? more? (including the entire secondary, i believe?) i don't know a ton about defensive schemes or whatever, and walters did a great job in 2022, but he was absolutely set up for success. (which, again, he took advantage of, so credit to him.)

I know neither Walters or Patterson would be welcomed back, but what about Kevin Kane in the event we need a defensive position coach? He might be tainted as well, but was highly regarded in his time here.

Purdue was only super awfual team in B10. However Locksley (MD) and Braun (NW) might be in trouble if they can't get back to bowl eligible next year.

JMO If Ferentz retires he will do it 1 week before season start to force Iowa to hire his assistant coach. At least his son will not be his successor.

being considered for CMU head job

Should’ve clarified a little more on my post …

The other one I was speaking of is Parker … You are correct … It would only be to advance his career … No lateral moves … And you can’t fault a guy for that …

CMU is interested and multiple smaller schools will call about making him DC …

CMU head job? Absolutely.

Smaller school DC? No. You’ll get paid the same or more here and secondary should be special next season. He could have P4 coordinator interest.
