it’s not too late for Fickell to turn things around , but it’s now past “halftime” , and his seat is getting warm . He needs to go bowling next year , or his seat will be very hot going into 2026

It's a fun question - is Fickell safe with a 6-6 season? 7-5 season? I feel like missing a bowl again would put him on the chopping block.

Fickell contract runs 6 more years on contract w $40M buyout. I don't think he is going anywhere soon unless he crashes a motorcyle with a coed intern riding behind him.

Fickell averaged 11 wins per season for 6 seasons at Cincinnati. 7-6 and 5-7 at Wisconsin is not spectacular.

His predecessor Paul Chryst averaged 9 wins per season over 8.5 seasons. It could be Wisconsin was too quick to pull the trigger on Paul Chryst. I am surprised he was not candidate for Purdue or UNC opening.

Wisconsin also just spent $285 million on facilities upgrades. They're stuck with him for a few more years

Writing was on the wall for Chryst when key recruiting staffers left...and were replaced by absolutely no one. New AD knew the wheels were falling off. Chryst absolutely had to go. Whether or not Leonhard should've been given the job is up for debate

If you take out the Covid shortened season and his last season where he got fired 5 games in, he actually averaged over 10 wins a season. He had four 10+ win seasons. In retrospect it does seem really shortsighted to jettison him so quickly.

They did look really awful in his last game, but maybe that was just because of the quality of their opponent :illinois:

Wisconsin fans got tired of being a ball control team and wanted to have a high powered offense. The same thing will happen in Iowa when Ferentz leaves

Chryst is a throwback/Old School type of coach who would need the right AD/DIA/Support staff in place to succeed in the NIL era.

One of the weirdest hires in recent memory.

It makes WAY less sense than Lovie, across a number of different dimensions.
I totally don't get this. This is not a long term solution to the W/L record. I get they need NIL, but west of the Hudson River, is he really that popular?
