It could be a car wreck but I am more nervous about Chesney getting a competing B1G job in a year or two than Kelly in East Lansing.

If I was hiring I would rank 1. Kiffin 2. Drinkwitz 3. Franklin 4. Kelly You want somebody who has had multiple +9 win seasons in P4 conference.

Cignetti and Elko have signed extensions.

Lea never won 9 games in first 4 seasons at Vandy. Might this year at 8-2. Campbell best record was 8-1 (2020) in 10 years at Iowa State.
That is his best record by winning % but this framing obscures the fact that he also won 9+ games twice (thereby passing the bat you set) and won 11 games last season.

Conference games only. I know in 2023 TN was ranked and got smoked by Mizzou. TN finished the season at 4-4 so, it wasn't a winning record. Surprising but I think it's accurate.

Correct...let me clarify my wording.

Drink has never won an SEC regular season game against an SEC team that finished the year with a conference record above .500

This is an oddly overspecific concern then.

He only beat 4 top 25 teams that year, but because it was only a .500 SEC team it wasn't a worthwhile season? It was an 11 win season against the 2nd highest SOS in the SEC that year.

They followed it up with a 10 W season and have 7 wins this year playing the water boy at QB.

do you see Fitz ending up somewhere ?
Yes, I do. Although maybe NOT in the B1G... although I've speculated that UCLA might be a good spot for him - IF Jedd Fisch or Jonathan Smith don't try to grab it... If the Vandy coach moves on, they might consider him since he did excel at Northwestern - which also has difficult academic standards... I believe that once this 'regular season' ends, this carousel is going to get truly WILD... Get the popcorn and Jack slushies ready...

That freshman is a pretty good water boy

He could.

But he also could fail.

He's done a good job at Ole Miss but he's also been pretty lucky the last couple years schedule-wise. I will say, at least this season he's taken care of business, and avoided losses to teams he should absolutely not be losing to (which was what kept him out of the playoff last season).

I get why LSU wants him, and there's definitely a chance he crushes there, but he's as much a sure thing as Sark was when Texas hired him (and that hiring has been meh, at best).
That’s fair. Here’s how I see it:

Both Les Miles and Ed Orgeron won a national championship at LSU. So you can win there.

Ole Miss in the 4 years leading up to the Lane Kiffin hire went: 20-28.
Over the past 5 years with Kiffin at the helm Ole Miss has gone: 49-14.

That’s hard to do regardless of schedule.

Ed Orgeron won a national championship at LSU and went 10-25 at Ole Miss.

I’m not sure there’s a better hire out there for LSU.

I'm gonna say there's 0.001% chance of this happening. No way the Gov'nuh is going to let a contract even more egregious than Kelly's get signed, especially with a brand new AD in place. I don't care what the booster roster is, not going to happen.
The Guv'nuh is probably one of the boosters...

He's the best coach for an SEC job available this cycle. Both because of his recent results and familiarity with the conference.

Nothing is guaranteed in life, winning is hard, and LSU has a train wreck of an administration, I'd say there's 70% chance hes gone in 4 years without a ship.

A lot of coaches would chop off their arm and sell their kids for a 30% chance to win a championship.

Good match. (Kenny) Chesney is kinda wimpy. So is UCLA. Their cheerleaders are first rate though.

Smart move for Virginia Tech going for James Franklin. Franklin is going to exceed in the ACC and his path to the playoffs could be easier in that conference too.
Yep, I think the second part is why he took the job rather than go to SEC. He could definitely get VT to the point it is getting into playoffs pretty regularly. Can’t win a national championship if you don’t make the playoffs.
