I love this hire.
Can he recruit? What does he bring to the table in the recruiting world, especially for a guy who doesn't embrace the current system? He had better get comfortable really quickly.

Lots of references to Rocky Long (who Hauck assisted as AHC/ST at San Diego State in the mid 2010's) and the 3-3-5 defense in that press release.

Montana football coach Bobby Hauck has announced his retirement effective immediately. The Big Sky Conference's all-time wins leader said he doesn't enjoy his job anymore because of the direction college football has taken in recent years.

3-3-5 is gimmick defense to compensate when you dont have personnel to win in trenches.
I watched Rocky Long at NM and SDSU where he had success. Hauck should be able to handle DC job after being very succesful HC for 20 years. I am sure he was very hands on at Montana.

our new D is going to be alot of what you all saw last night from Seattle. after the front 3 or 4, the rest of the 7-8 guys are all just uber athletes that have speed and can hit like Mike Tyson

I wasn't aware of that! That's interesting! So, the Coordinator has to coach up whoever Bret hands him? That would not be an easy job. If you're a recruit, wouldn't you want to know who's heading up the defense and ask questions of him?
