The unfortunate truth is that this staff on paper is worse than the first staff and the last staff. Let’s hope the culture has been built up enough where it doesn’t matter. Because this staff gives me anxiety

No it’s not. Walters was a really good DC. Revisionist history but man… I liked Kevin Kane.
Walters was a good DC at Illinois. Missouri, not so much. Drink wanted to bring in a co DC. Walters pushed back. Drink was considering firing him, but Bielima hired him, so Drink didn't have to pull the trigger.

This is a fair point but not the argument I was making. I think hauck could be a good hire. I’m not sold for some reasons but I will not argue against those who are excited. My issue remains with the soft landing we gave Henry. We didn’t do that for sintim, Finleus, buh, TP. But Henry? We sure as hell did. And it was only because of Bret’s personal ties with him.

Bret didn’t extend that same professional curtsey to other coaches. I love Bret. But his personal feelings to Henry messed up this offseason and has made it to where we have to scramble for staff and players at the very end of the cycle.

Will it pay off down the road? Maybe. But for 2026 Illinois football. It did not help us at all.
Do you know any coach who has always made the 'right' decision at every turn in their career ? Have you known anyone who has always made the right decision, in every instance of their life ? ? Have you always made the right or even the 'best' decision in every instance of your short life ? ?

Comparing Petersen situation to A Hen situation is like Apples and Oranges …

Bret known Henry since he was 17 … Like family … It was never an option to just can him like Petersen …
Which is a serious mistake. College football is a profit driven enterprise. Personal attachments have a place but can not affect business decisions. IMO, AHen should have never been promoted. Handing the keys to an unproven coach at a B1G school was dicey at best. I know it's water under the bridge now. A drastic change in defense concepts has its own issues. I'm hoping for the best.

Huh? are you telling me that Knapik, Terk, McMillen, Henderson, Hanson/Stewart/Martin/Refnro aren't going to be our first 8 O - Lineman next year? And are you telling me that Farrell, Janki, Demetrius, White, Brown, Barna, Kreutz, Beerman, Kante, Rooks aren't 10 of the 14 players that will rotate in the front 7 (or it could be 6) on D next year? If I am wrong about that, let me know. I personally have been waitng to see how our more recent recruits will compete and I am looking foward to seeing where we stand. As for the Portal rankings - how do recuit defensive players via the portal whent your defensive coaching staff is changing? Don't be surprised if one or two of the empty roster spots is filled from players from Montana. Given the defense we are going to play we will miss Angelo McCullmm. The rest ? Not as much.

If you are hiring Hauck to install his defense, why wouldn’t you want him to bring his staff that know his scheme? He’s been Bobby’s DLine coach for three years - I think that makes him qualified

You think that makes him qualified for coach in the big10? Like I said he can be on he can be on that staff but it’s a major L if we don’t add anyone else. This is a huge hire for the staff it needs to be a home run
