Steve Alford to ESPN: I am Absolutely 100 percent not going to Indiana. Staying at UCLA. I am happy. Love it...

Now this is the type of statement that should make people upset if he actually does leave. BU never made a statement like this.

Alford wants the job, it's just not going to be offered to him. It's Archie. jMO.

Archie to Indiana

IT'S LIT FAM

Look out! Great (if totally predictable) hire for IU. The B1G keeps getting better. Top to bottom best coaching conference in America. The bottom of the barrel is probably Richard Pitino, Fran McCaffrey, Pat Chambers, Tim Miles, and maybe Steve Pikiell. And those guys are all either very decent coaches or unproven but obviously bright.

The hiring of Archie Miller by Indiana is a good thing. It makes the Big 10 better and like BU said, Illinois should not be afraid to play anyone. As much as I dislike Indiana I want them to be good just like I want every team in the Big 10 to be good. It makes for great basketball and it makes it a great conference for players to want to be a part of,

Clear to me that with Chris Collins, Gard, and Pikiell entering the league over the last few years and now Archie in the mix, Groce had to go. Just doesn't have the in-game chops to hang. Archie is going to be tough to recruit against. We'd better be able to recruit effectively in Chicago, because I think Indy and St Louis are going to be awfully tough given the new landscape (still think we'll do fine, but we were gaining ground in the Indianapolis area and I assume that's kaput now; STL we'll hang in there, but Cuonzo and Ford are going to get theirs).

Yep, I think Underwood is up for it but there is going to be some big time battles on the court/recruiting in this conference in the upcoming years. Plus having to deal with Martin in the St. Louis area.

I wouldn't worry, as it will play out, Illinois will rise to the top as the best destination for players in the St. Louis area. Right now martin is having a little recruiting success and it may last a couple of years but if what we believe Coach Underwood will do on the court we will be the place for the top players in the area.

Great hire for Indiana. We want teams in conference to be as good as possible. 8-10 in a Big Ten that had a great non conference season instead of this year's down year probably would've been good enough to get in. Having Miller at Indiana gives us a better chance of having a premier win on our resume than Crean did.

Also, the timing of this makes too much sense. Gotta assume Alford was the number 1 choice and once he definitively said no after UCLA lost, they grabbed their second choice. Lucky for them, their second choice is going to probably work out better.

Yeah that's a quite obvious

Some iu fans are pissed because they all thought they were getting Donovan or Stevens lol

Yeah, Stevens was going to leave with a top 3 team in the East and a plethora of draft picks including a great chance to turn those picks into Jimmy Butler this summer. That team is one to watch in the East once LeBron's decline starts picking up pace.

John Groce would be a nice fit at Dayton potentially.

I think they'll go for a bigger fish from a PR perspective, but they should absolutely consider hiring Groce. I think he'd do a great job at that level. He'd also be able to recruit second-tier Chicago kids as effectively as Archie has, IMO. Groce has a good rep in AAU circles from his time in Champaign - seen as a stand-up guy and hard worker.

I am not worried about recruiting against Archie, he will get his but Coach U runs an exciting style of play and he will get his players. Coach U said it,we should not be afraid to play anyone.

That would be a huge step down for Dayton. They can do better. Maybe the guy who turned down UMass?

I think they'll aim higher than Groce, but I think he'd do well there. Pat Kelsey would be an excellent hire for them - wonder if he's actually staying at Winthrop now or just looking for a better move than UMASS. I think he'll be at Winthrop for one more year.

Archie was a shooting star at the mid-major level. Unlikely that they'll be able to attract someone comparable in terms of coaching and recruiting ability. Almost any hire would be a step down for them.
