I am 1000% in on Lovie. But if we're wondering what's next in three years, that's the guy.

Triple option football would be a revelation at Illinois and you couldn't invent a better fit to be the person to make it happen.
That was a heck of an Army/Navy game yesterday. Both teams were well coached.

Went to West Point a couple years ago for Army vs. Wake Forest. Maybe 2 passes thrown the whole game. They lost 17-14 on a last second field goal. Now all of a sudden he's THE rising star?

He was also a rising star in his 4 years at Georgia Southern. I was surprised to see him take the Army job, but the job he's done there since he came in is remarkable. Army has had 1 winning season since 1996 and he's got them in 2 straight bowl games. He's a guy to watch IMO.

Would he be able to take the kind of guys Lovie is recruiting and transition to the triple option, or would we have to blow the whole thing up again?

You have to really understand the limitations that Army is working with.

They're more constrained than Navy -- and far more constrained than Air Force -- in the types of players they can play. For them to beat or even compete with ACC schools is a testament to how far they've come as a program. That's all coaching, because it's not like Army can go out and fix their problems by recruiting blue chip talent.

Monken has done a remarkable job, and is a heck of a coach. Not sure how he would project in a P5 conference, though.

The stable of athletic QB's would really help. Our big Dorsey-type WR/TE hybrids would help. The defense doesn't need to change significantly. The tricky fit would be the big, mauling type O-lineman Lovie and McGee prefer moving into that more wide split, athletic, cut-blocking system, but taking some weight off of those guys isn't too terribly hard.

Illinois is planning a $79 million facility to help close the gap between them and the Big Ten's best

Take a quick tour of the facility here >>

Somewhat of an ominous feel to that tweet, no?

Any clue on who our 10th assistant might be?

The poster who broke the news about the Pete DiNovo transfer mentioned that there would be a staff shakeup after the February signing date (2/7/18).

He mentioned that as many as three assistants could be on the move.

I think that's what it relates to, yes.

Any smoke on which assistants?

It would seem to me the most likely candidates would have to be Ligs and Paul Williams. Not out of the realm that asst leave on their own accord to go to pros like a Hardy, Hayes-Stoker, Phair, Butus or even Donnie A

Why ominous? Lovie put a staff together at an odd time of year. It would not be surprising for either side to not feel it’s not the right fit and to make a move. I would not cast this as positive or negative. I would also assume that since it won’t happen until after signing date, whatever happens will be by agreement. I would also assume that if this is the case, replacements have been contacted etc.

ASU vying with Tennessee for idiot AD of the year award:

"I've made it very clear to both of those guys that we want them to have the opportunity to come back, and any head coach that comes in here and doesn't see that value is not the guy for us," Anderson said last month. "And so it's not a situation where we need to clean house and start over. [Quarterback] Manny Wilkins doesn't need a fourth coordinator in four years. That will not be our direction."

Roughly three weeks later, both Napier and Bennett have moved on, leaving new coach Herm Edwards without both coordinators just days before the early signing periods opens on Dec. 20.”

It sucks that ASU isn't a prominent enough program for a lot of people to pay attention (plus so many people in the football media like Herm personally and don't want to pile on), but the depantsing of this AD has been absolutely exquisite. The confluence of stupidity and arrogance is seldom punished so perfectly.

Williams, Ligs and McGee seem like the 3 safe bets on who is going.

That leaves 4 spots to fill. Scheelhaase is a 200% lock to be on staff next year. Patterson will likely have a job if he wants one.

McGee? You sure about that? I wouldn't be against it but I also wouldn't mind seeing him given another year to see some progress on the offensive side of the ball. If not, you definitely move on as Lovie is a defensive guy who needs to lean heavily on an Offensive Coordinator to get things going on that side of the ball.

Whether another coordinator can step in and drastically improve things with the projected personnel we're going to have at QB and OL is a discussion for a different thread.

I know there's a lot of talk about Patterson, but I have my doubts that he wants to move on from Trinity Catholic right now. He's been active in youth football in St. Louis for many years and will have a team that will be loaded with talented upperclassmen next season. Now probably isn't the right time for him to move on to a college job.

I would hope we make Scheelhaase the QB coach as we need someone to work directly with Thomas/Rivers/Taylor. All of these guys have the talent to be quality QBs in the Big Ten but their progress is dependent on quality coaching.

Scheelhaase would be a perfect mentor to Cam and the incoming guys.

Isn't there a one year waiting period for signing players whose coaches get hired by a college team? Or is that only for non-coaching positions?

Nothing to base it on - maybe, a desire to not see Scheelhaase become the QB coach - but just don't see McGee leaving next year. He's just getting his players. Williams makes sens, since Abraham will likely take over DB's. Even then, Williams is a pretty good coach. Maybe Phair Williams, and Ligs?

From what I'm hearing, Lovie was real unhappy with how things went on the offensive side of the ball this year (who wasn't?). Regardless of what he had to work with, he's making a lot of money and the results have been abysmal. We'll see what happens.

One thing that is really telling is that McGee has not appeared to be all that active in terms of recruiting. Outside of Ligs, who on this staff has been less active? We've seen Phair, Nickerson, Williams, etc. all out of the recruiting trail. Who is McGee recruiting?

I'm not sure what you have against Nate? He's obviously inexperienced but he's also a bright kid who played the position well.

I don't have anything against him, per se. Just think there could be a better option.
Okay, the high-five attempt was a long time ago.
