I heard Brad Underwood is retiring and we’re hiring back Bruce Weber.

I'm not going to over-react one way or the other until some ink is dry. What I will add is that a HC's job is not just to develop basketball players. He is the COO of the Basketball program. A big part of his job is to develop coaches as well.

Additionally, I think if a recruit is only interested in a school because of a certain assistant, they are setting themselves up for disappointment. No one's life long ambition is to be an assistant. If they are that good, they want to do bigger and better things. Expecting that guy to be there 4 or 5 years from now, doesn't say much about that coach. The HC is the one providing the plan and the shared vision for the program. If the recruits aren't on board with the HC, they probably shouldn't be at that school.

I guess my point is that BU seems to be tremendous at all aspects of his job. As long as he is committed to this team, I believe we will be fine.

Picking off two assistants from one program seems pretty uncool to me. Another reason to despise Kentucky basketball. It just seems so feckless to compete with programs like that sometimes. It takes a considerable amount of energy to elevate a program, even if just back to where we used to be.

Can Assistant Coaches just opt out of contracts?
Do you want to force someone to work for you? That never ends well. Also not sure but doubt any assistants have buy-out contracts either. I think it’s just an unfortunate part of the game. They can be dropped in an instant too. Gotta be a hard gig.

In high school an upperclassman stole back to back girlfriends from me and he was cool enough to do it. 😂

From the Kentucky standpoint, I understand wanting OA back, and think that's going to happen. I don't get the Chin stuff? Is he a way better coach than we realize? Obviously I think he's a good coach and recruiter, but is he so good that Kentucky needs to pull him away?

I don't know what is typically in assistant coach contracts, but I have to imagine that buyouts for assistants are much more tractable than for heat coaches (particularly if they have good agents) and would be no problem for a program like UK. That's assuming they even have buyouts. You might also imagine it would make sense for there to be no buyouts for assistants since it would send the signal that they can come and work and advance when it's their time.
