Might be in the minority but I think that would be a good hire for DePaul. Still think the Blue Demons could turn things around. There's no reason the state of Illinois couldn't be getting 2-3 teams in the tourney every year. Like Mullins at SIU, us, and someone out of Bradley, Loyola, NU, DePaul could make it every now and then
No thanks. I'll pass on them making the tourney ever again in my lifetime.

And Moser has the same number of Final 4 appearances as UI has in 32 yrs. And UI has superior talent almost every one of those 32 yrs. It's not all due to a slow, plodding guy who can't jump and might not be able to dunk either. Loyola played about the best defense we have seen this year, maybe Baylor was better...that's coaching fellas.
I hope IU hires him so we get to see how good a coach he really is. Should be fun to watch him finish last in the league.

The problem can be a lot of coaching promotions are created in March.

Moser did a masterful job preparing for us and got a big win. But if you look at the season, he didn't beat any of the good teams on his schedule. Look at Groce. If memory serves correct he never ended better than third in the MAC, but he had a nice March and he ended up in Champaign.

When I look at a perspective coach I want to see success at every stop and I want to see that success pretty quickly at each stop.

When I look at Porter Moser I see ehhh at Arkansas Little Rock, no improvement in 3 years. I see poor performance at ISU. Then at Loyola, meh until Krutwig showed up, and don't forget Lance Williamson.

So to me Moser becomes a big bust risk. An AD has to discern, did he just learn and become a better coach, or did a couple of very talented players make him look far better than he actually is. Creating a masterful plan for 1 game in March does not mean you will be successful in a step up in competition over the course of a full season.

What if, he’s learned, adjusted, and gotten better?

He may have, but I think we'd need to see sustained success at LUC without Krutwig before we could say that's the case. Someone might hire him before we could see that, but that's the nature of this time of year in college basketball.

Report: Mark Turgeon could be looking for exit from Maryland; possibly eyeing Power Five job in Midwest

Turgeon’s up-and-down relationship with Maryland fans goes back years, and according to a Monday night VIP story from 247Sports’ Maryland affiliate InsideMDSports’ Jeff Ermann, things could be in limbo between the two sides.

On Tuesday’s The Sports Junkies on 106.7FM The Fan in Washington D.C., Jason “Lurch” Bishop cited a source saying Turgeon is possibly looking for an exit from the program.

“Someone close to the program said (Turgeon) has been looking for power-five jobs back in the Midwest,” Bishop said. “That he is looking to get back home. He's from Topeka, Kansas. He was sniffing around the Wichita State job after they let go of Marshall, but Wichita State hired the assistant for a five-year deal. That's just a rumor. All rumors. But the guy told me Turg might be fed up with the pace of DC, get back home, slow it down a little bit."

The questioning of Moser's coaching is weird to me. What good mid-major coaches don't have good players? Honestly, can someone fill me in on what mid-major coaches have sustained success with bad talent? Getting talent is arguably the biggest part of the job. He found Krutwig. Good for him. He has also coached his team into a mid major power that the advanced stats love. They aren't one of the best defensive teams in the country because of an unathletic center.

I think it goes back to the whole body of work thing. He’s been fired from his two previous coaching stints, and he didn’t have success for the first 6 years at Loyola. Then he gets Krutwig, and the others in that class, and goes to the final four. Maybe he had an epiphany, and solved some issues in his approach or methods, but if I’m in a position to hire a coach I’d be hesitant to trust that his success would continue with another set of players, or could be reproduced.

I agree that he's far from a sure thing, but really no coach is. Moser was extremely young during his first 2 HC stints, and I didn't know he was fired at UALR. He was what, like 38 when ISU fired him? Most coaches haven't even earned their first HC stint at that age. There's no doubt that Krutwig has elevated him, but that's Moser's job. Find the right guys for your program, and try to get more talent than your opponent.

Well said... I think something else to consider with any coaching opening is the program expectations and if they are actually upgrading to a better fit for those expectations. When UCLA fired Ben Howland, they didn't upgrade by hiring Steve Alford. They simply made a change because they were tired of the previous coach. Not to mention what Pitt did with Jamie Dixon... Anyway, would Porter Moser be an upgrade at Marquette over Wojo? Would he be an upgrade at Indiana over Archie Miller? Or would he just be somebody new.

Wow....On Turg not liking "pace"...I have never really considered DC,....the "mecca of bureaucracy"... a place that is fast paced.

I definitely agree that midwest values and culture is of great value and likely not available in Maryland/DC.

I mean if you wanna be in the middle of nowhere in the Midwest, south or anywhere else, DC probably feels like the Indy 500.

UMD is inside the beltway so it is basically DC and DC is a fast-paced rat race. I would think UMD basketball would mostly be secluded from that... but maybe the rest of his surroundings are bothering him
