Can't blame OA. Clearly he's a coveted assistant coach. We all know that. I think BU will get a good assistant, but let's not fool ourselves both chin and OA have proven themselves to be top shelf assistants. Almost any replacement is going to be a downgrade.

And so help me if I have to read 30 freaking pages of people saying we should bring on _______________ former illinois player as an assistant who has zero qualifications, I'm going to lose my mind. Rev is the only one remotely qualified to be one of our assistants.
When BU landed these top shelf assistants I'm not sure there was a great deal of competition for their services. Seems to me that BU is the constant here...

Jerrance. I'm not advocating for him, and he just took a new job at Texas, but he would be very qualified.

Have a Snickers. You do know that if you don't click on it....you won't have to read it?

My hope in regard to this is that BU is a bigger magnet than we realize

I dont understand how the price of being relevant is a potential mass exodus? Isn't that the opposite of what is supposed to happen when you're relevant?
Right I never understand that thinking. last year: “We want to be the team that gets Ayo to and Kofi to the nba! Recruits will love it. This is great for us!” no, it’s not. Last season was great for us.

We are not at the level where people leaving is viewed as a good thing. That’s like 5 programs. Duke can afford to cycle through 1-and-dones and assistant coaches (who are typically stepping up to p1 head coaching gigs).

There is no way to spin this being “good” for the program. 3 more years of deep tourney appearances and being ranked all year? Sure, sucks to see them go but we’ve at least got this thing going. But the meltdown is over the fact that we can’t ever seem to get things established before it starts to stall. And, when it rains, it pours for us it seems.

Yup, there must be a lot of bad news headed our way. The social media wing of the athletic department trying to soften the blow. They just posted this. Lol.

Great post. In the past we have sputtered when we were poached, except the Self hire. BU needs to make 1-2 hires. Roger Powell hits all the wickets, likely need to reward him generously for his loyalty. The other ine if needed would have to be a strong recruiter tied into the top tier AAU scene.

I wish they would just pay the kids already and squash this nonsense. Although it probably won't help much. Universities will still fork out the dough to bribe the best players to come.
If we can’t/won’t pay enough to keep the coaches, I’m pretty sure we won’t have the cash to keep up paying players either.

IIRC there was talk, I won’t mention names because I’m not positive, that OA might leave a year or two ago because JW didn’t want to play the recruiting game. Then things kind of smoothed over. I’m not sure if that is part of what’s behind this move or if its strictly a salary issue.

I agree. Head Coaches have a short list of potential replacements. I cannot believe Cal would go after Chin. We all knew OA was here for a short time as he is regarded as one of the best recruiters in College BBall.
The Goodman article said no room for OA without shuffling the staff as is. Barbee was in a non-recruiting admin role so it’s implied another coach in staff will move into that role.

If Chin joined then another assistant would need to be fired.

Im just guessing the Chin rumors are tied to another school. Arizona? Idk

Not gonna lie, this is a slap in the face to BU if Antigua really is gone.

Underwood took a flyer on him and revived his career when it was literally at gutter level. Guess that doesn't count for much these days.

Also if Whitman and the AD really is getting chicken with the way we're recruiting and getting top players, tell him to sack TF up or get out. This is how top level programs are run nowadays. If we wanna be the squeaky clean Harvard or Stanford of the Midwest, fine...but don't spoon-feed us all this rah rah BS about #WeWillWin if you're not willing to play in the gray area and do what it takes.

Extremely disappointed in Whitman if this is true.

My question is, why does JW need to know if we are playing the game? Don’t things like that flow from boosters to players? It’s not like there’s a line item in the athletic department’s budget for those kind of funds.

Seems like a booster issue doesn’t it? Not that I know how it all works at other schools.

I can promise all of you there are far more than the two great assistants we have that are out there and working/dreaming to be a part of our squad. Good luck men! I’ll never like Kentucky basketball before or after the moves regardless.

Who would think that our football staff would have turned out as stellar as it has? Now it’s possibly Brad’s turn to hire a couple zingers.

Ooo boy if we were posting links to the Iowa pages with 'gotta love that meltdown'-type captions I can only imagine the level of trolling of this board happening elsewhere right now. Dumpster fire (deservedly so). Hey, at least Illinois and Iowa fans can toast each other to their mutual hatred for Kentucky!!

Gray has a lot of shades. We will never play in the Kansas Kentucky, Arizona, shade of gray.

Orlando’s career wasn’t in the gutter. He had baggage but he was still hired as one of the top assistant candidates in the country.
