BOOM! Feed my ego.
Not over, according to something I heard last night, which I will label as strictly a rumor from a friend of mine who said he was around Cal yesterday (we both live in LA). Given the providence of the info I won't repeat the comment, or label it good/bad, other than to say the comment suggests that the situation remains ongoing.

Hard to believe it is over (that OA is leaving) since we don't seem to be hearing leaks about possible replacement...

What do you mean by this? If you think the guys at the Country Club want anything beyond winning football and basketball, you're very mistaken. I suspect in a weighted vote of DIA contributors where each dollar got you a vote, the contest between winning a single regular season basketball game against IU vs a B1G title for woman's basketball that the IU victory would get about 90% of the votes.
Do country clubs still exist?

Well apparently Illinois has a 4yr/$1.5 million offer on the table. No word yet if KY has countered it or not.
Where did you hear this? Not doubting it's truth, but 1.5 mil is ALOT ALOT. It is amazing that we want to keep him that much, but going from 1 to 1.5 should need a middle man.

"O" stays? The Illini keep a winning coaching staff together and build on that momentum. And keep the Caribbean pipeline flowing freely.

"O" leaves? The Beloved have already made a major statement to the basketball World that has everyone in the business talking. While also sending a strong message to the Head Coach that the program is serious about being among The Best now and in the future and confirming his vision and faith in it. Message also received by young men who will be deciding to whom they want to entrust their futures.

For the Orange and Blue? Win, win. Either way, a win. Those are the best kind of games to play.

Losing your top recruiter and big man coach in a lateral move (Asst coach to Asst coach), along with possibly your second best recruiter with connections to the most-talented Chicago AAU team is never a win

I am wondering if BU has embraced a new coaching model...

One that would keep his pay lower & raise the pay of really good assistants so that being a career assistant on an "elite" staff would become desirable. Makes far more sense to me than head coaches getting 5, 7, 8 million dollars a year & always shuffling assistants.

How many of the 350+ D1 head coaches would be willing to do this? I bet that number is very low.

If it works (big if) better than the current model I'm thinking quite a few would go that route... esp. if it saved their job.

He could also trade more money per year to keep good assistants for a longer contract that ties season success to larger bonuses. Success leads to more revenue for the program. The longer contract gives him more security. The elite assistants increases the odds of success. It’s certainly a model.
