Perhaps, but I doubt it. Undie made his bones working in the trenches. He didn't start making decent money until late in his career. Relative to his peers he has a pretty small window in which to build his nest egg.
Unless Underwood is looking to move to a place where houses costs millions, he already has his nest egg.
3M * 4 years * 50% (taxes) = 6M
- 500k for a really nice house in CU.
- 500k to send the three kids to college
5M * 3% = 150k spendable per year w/o touching principal. Each of the kids gets ~1.8M (adjusted for inflation) as an inheritance; (cash+house)/3.
Given that he is 57, he may be able to spend ~5%/year instead which is 250k (Sorry kids, you get less.)
Every additional year at 3M increases his annual budget by 45-75k.
In his position, I would happily spend my"raises" on my support staff. The money is already there. Now it is about quality of life and reaching other success goals. A well oiled machine makes life a whole lot easier.
