The reason we are not an elite program is not because OA and Chin are leaving (if the rumors are true). The reason we are not an elite program is because we have not performed like an elite program. One trip to the championship game, one Final Four since 1989, three tournament appearances in the last ten years. Not exactly rare air.
Under Underwood we are going in the right direction. I think the suggestion that we are taking steps back demonstrates a misunderstanding of what is happening. If our assistant coaches get offers at one of the top programs in NCAA history, or our players leave for the NBA, that is the logical and foreseeable consequence of our improvement.
Wholeheartedly agree. Unsuccessful programs don't have coaches poached by programs like Kentucky. It's the reality that we live in that, until we (hypothetically) get closer to their level as a program, then we are going to lose some assistants along the way who get poached. If we don't, we are either very lucky or not performing very well.
It really just sucks that it is potentially two at once and so early in the process.
