Now that would be a solid recovery, and Robinson checks the box for Chicago recruiter, too. Now add a local guy like Mennenga that recruits nationally, and Illinois is back in the game.

If we keep the players intact, including commits like Podz, Payne, Storr and bass, we don’t miss a beat here.

new coaches will bring new connections and an even wider recruiting base.

Timing of this really sucks. I always knew OA was going to eventually leave. Kinda thought we were on some borrowed time with him TBH. I just thought that he would've opted to take a head coaching job vs. as an assistant elsewhere. I think that's what stings the most with him leaving. As for Chin, I thought BU took a shot on him that was a bit more than OA. OA was a known quantity - Prolific Recruiter at the very least. I don't know if Chin was BU's first choice, but I remember feeling like his resume didn't scream "power 5" assistant coach...at least not yet. He proved me wrong and has really blossomed as a recruiter and coach. I just didn't think he would leave as quickly as OA or have a little more loyalty (especially if Illini really countered aggressively to keep him and there's no history that I know of between him and Cal). Hey, money is money, your career is your career so you gotta do what's best I guess.

BU found these guys and seems to have surrounded himself in the past with good staff. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. If they really do support and focus on helping BU retain the recruits, that will be huge.

They are all fond of BU. They enjoyed working for him and are going to help him anyway they can in the transition process.
You saying Chin gone too?

Sorry, just realized Juiceman posted the same thing earlier.

Now the negative articles are coming out.

I mean this with no disrespect, but I do not value the opinion of someone who has only been alive and old enough to follow Illinois basketball during it's worst stretch in recent memory. The author didn't experience any of the extended good times. The program's ceiling is clearly higher than where we are now.

This. His intimation that we were nearing blue blood status (on the heels of 1 VG season) is an absolute howler.

He's a college kid writing about college basketball for the college paper. His perspective is not without value.

I'll concede that he's a little precocious in his fatalism.

Nah KY has nothing to offer him.. Reduced playing time, a worse PG and iffy cast of players since they are all untested. He is way better off at Illinois! Without question. His 3rd year will be about being comfortable and in the spot light
Didn’t mean Kentucky. Just going pro. G- league or overseas. Just think he can develop while getting $.

WeWillWhen: “This isn’t so complicated. Kentucky is Kentucky, and Illinois is not.”

And we can thank our Lucky Stars for that. Kentucky has a deeply embedded entitled-feeling fan base with tons of stifling pressure on everyone. If you don’t win it all every single year, you’re worthless. In Illini Nation, we have a legacy tradition second to none in the World and a passionate fan base that appreciates even the smallest hint of great success. And a special High Mountain to climb against all odds.

Winning at Kentucky is simply no big deal. Winning at Illinois is taking a proud program up to Basketball Mount Everest. Which is the greater accomplishment? Just another banner to hang up there with all that other laundry or playing a role in creating a special destiny and rewarding a deserving patient fan base?

Coach says we want people who want to be here. Amen to that.

Personally I'd rather have 8 national championships and higher expectations year in and year out but that's just me.

Do we have any sort of connection at all? Or did you just randomly pull out a name? Seems like a good, potential replacement, but sometimes people throw out names like that, and people believe there is a connection when there are none at all.

Usually, it seems, you tend to have a reason for posting things.
