I see we're really going down the rabbit hole tonight.

Welp enjoy.

Agree on AC. He's the lynchpin holding this thing together. If he leaves, and creates the dominos falling, we're looking at a Crean at IU level rebuild. If he stays, and the current class stays together, I think we can weather the storm.
That's a little bit of an exaggeration, IMO.
So far we've just lost AM, Giorgi and probably Kofi a big hit, but heck
almost everyone out there has lost players to the portal this year.

I think we've got AM and Giorgi replaced already with potentially comparable talent.

We lose Curbelo and Trent plays a lot more and we get a PG from the portal.

If Curbelo stays that doesn't guarantee all the new players stay, but if some don't they'll be replaced with not necessarily more talented, but probably more experienced players.

We probably don't make the dance without Curbelo, but we'll win some games not like the Crean early years, maybe more like Henson's early years or better yet, BU's first two and 1/2 seasons.

I think the portal changes things considerably over Crean's time at IU.
Or one of the freshmen could turn out to be great right away like Curbelo.

All the talk is OA is trying to leave the right way. If he poaches Andre that’s not the right way. But, there’s gonna be pressure to do it from Cal. Kentucky’s roster is a trash pile right now.

OK is this really a legitimate thing that could happen or is it just a fanbase with severe PTSD seeing phantoms? Because y’all are starting to scare me with this talk.

I'd say get used to it. The free transfer rule will allow this to happen every off-season, especially for non-blue bloods. Players always will be looking for a better situation, particularly early in their careers.

Pretty sure he was 100% about that while he worked here. I don’t think he’s leaving because he was ambivalent about Illinois’ success. Similarly, whomever we hire cares little about our success right now, but will be 100% about it once hired.
That's why someone like Rev would be the perfect pick up. He is an Illini. He gets it. He has an emotional connection.

Is it any wonder that Illinois fans are pessimists? It seems like every time something good happens, the other shoe drops.

After winning the B1G tournament and finishing the regular season on a high note, could things have possibly gone any worse (assuming the rumors about OA and Chin are true)?

I'd love for the Rev to come home, but I'll be surprised if he does. Why add another couple of years before he ascends to a head coach? The delay isn't a given, but it's very likely.

I understand the frustration everyone, I have the same thing. But when we hire some solid assistants with ties to their own recruits and possible new aau ties we will move on and be fine. We will have a good team next year and will continue to build momentum.
Damn. You mean the sky is not falling?

That's not being pessimistic. It is based on fact. There are multiple examples of times when Illinois has been so close to the basketball mountaintop only to have something unforeseen happen to dash their hopes. And, the occurrences aren't always the same. Some are unbelievable apart from the fact that they really did happen. When you've been a fan as long as I have you've seen some things. I'm a little surprised that Illini fans haven't genetically evolved to already have a cup in place when they are born.

In typical fashion for folks around these parts, I'm going to read into this that you're expecting us to need to hire more than one?
