So complete overhaul of the staff? All 3 potentially?
Yup, I'm not an insider but I hear we are looking to bring on these 3 guys:

People do have the ability to learn. If we can bring Mendenhall in or someone with major recruiting chops I wouldn't be too concerned about Frazier being hired. He could learn a thing or 2 from a top dog recruiter and become one himself in time.

of all of the ex illini out there with resumes that could get them an interview even if they weren’t former illini, don’t think that CF is one of them. roger, jerrance, randle, yes. if we need to take a shot on an under qualified guy because they “connect with recruits” why not Dee?

i forgot... “the incident” that no one will talk about and knows no details about but has somehow resulted in his banishment

Have the three coaches actually been hired away from UI? Haven't seen anything official from the insiders. Instead of hiring Moe, Larry, and Curly as our newest coaches, they should be put on the BOT. Would love to see that Pie Fight.

Ok.....then I would say he is a step or 2 back from what we are losing. And....he adds nothing in Chicago.

I think he is a safe hire because he is an alum.
You don’t hire people simply because they are alums and aren’t a threat to leave. You hire the best people . Being an alum is a plus . Im sure Whitman isn’t “just hiring a guy that won’t leave”. You hire experienced people of good character. Frazier fits that .

Chester Frazier is like a 10 year assistant who is now an associate head coach (top assistant on the staff) in the ACC. His resume is arguably better than Gentry and Chin before they were hired at Illinois, and potentially still so when you consider the title he has ascended to.

As far as recruiting connections, he’s from the east coast and works there now so he has some there. I have personally seen him recruit Texas when he was K-State, plus whatever other connects he’s developed along the way.

I’m not stomping the pulpit for us to hire Frazier, but for people who say he’s a reach or unqualified that is just objectively not true.

Chet is possibly a better coach than all those guys you mentioned. I’d saw he’s the best coach of the bunch actually.

Is kind of interesting with all the knowledgeable geniuses on this board that we have yet to learn the dirt on this.

Chin was not high profile when Underwood hired him.
I'm not saying I want Chester, or don't. However, if you put his resume down next to Chester's with no names on it, I would bet the majority of people would pick Frazier, prior to Illinois.

Lot of good bball players, if not more in Baltimore, D.C., Virginia area than Chicago. Frazier has knowledge around those parts of the woods.

Chin was the connection for Ayo, not a lot more at the time. He developed into a little more, but wasn't wasn't a standout recruiter when he came.

We should trust the process and those that know a little more about how things work behind the scenes.

Well, Mendenhall checks the box of former Illini....that’s good...

I can imagine on many a D1 campus, conversations going something like this. "Why don't we try to hire BU from Illinois? 4 years ago that place was a double-wide dumpster fire. I mean he's that tough, no excuses kind of coach and yet the players love him! They were having a lot of fun out there on the court especially towards the end of the year. And their players improve year over year."

"There's no chance... BU loves Illinois and is intent on building that program into a monster".

"Then why don't we try to hire his assistant coaches. Somehow we've got to get that kind of culture into our program... A tough old school approach that current players really love. Don't forget what they did to Michigan on the road after their best player was sidelined. On top of that they have two seniors coming back for a fifth year!"

Saw on Twitter that DePaul expected to hire Paris Parham as AC. Sounds like they previously had hired Steve Thomas from Richmond for one of the other spots.

This is what I am struggling with. We are coming off a season where we basically won the B1G, won the BTT, and were a 1 seed in the dance and seem poised to maintain our momentum. So I ask myself how many comparable teams in similar situations would lose 3 assistant coaches to non-hc moves when money ultimately doesn't seem to be the issue? It makes me think that the underlying issue is BU and that scares the hell out of me.
Our success last season (until the Tournament) may have led the ACs to think that their stock had risen as high as it was going to at Illinois. Assuming the player departures result in a less successful season next year, the assistants might not want to ride the roller coaster back down, even if only for a season or two. This isn't a knock on Underwood, who's done a great job at Illinois, but I could be a while before we start two All Americans again.
