The problem is that with so much orange kool aid being drunk around here it seems many folks can't bring themselves to even consider this. I truly hope BU isn't the issue, but I'm really struggling to believe that there wasn't some friction.
Mebbe that's why they bolted for KY.

I would consider it if they were making lateral moves. It doesn't seem to me that moving to a higher profile job for equal or money is shrouded in mystery.

Believe me, I'm down that we lost our two best asst. coaches, but by some of the comments on here...you'd think that Underwood really doesn't do anything and that the program is run by others while he just sits around all day.

This is where I fall. It's certainly not ideal to lose any or all of your assistant coaches but the responsibility of the program lands squarely on BU and JW's shoulders. If this is the end of the road and not just a speed bump than it wasn't being built to be sustained long term anyway.

Again, I believe BU and JW are the right people to continue to move this forward.

To me it seems like we have some trolls here bigtime. True Loyalty folks don't beat the dead horse on why these coaches decided to move on. True Underwood haters do but not True Illinois Loyalists. And that is the name of this site! ILL
If u are offended I'm talking to you
C'mon now, there have been so many dead horses beaten on here you might as well call this place a glue factory

If we're filling 3 AC slots, I'd hold my nose and bring on Bergeron, if that seals the deal with Tre Mitchell.

Curbelo, Frazier, Hutch, Mitchell, Cockburn

Plummer, Grandison, DMW, Payne, Podz, Hawkins, Melendez, et al off the bench

That team could do some damage.
Maybe just semantics but I disagree with putting our first (and possibly best?) recruit in 2022in the et al grouping. Also, Grandison/Da'Monte are more likely to start at the 3 than Hutch. I think Curbelo/Frazier/Hutcherson/Plummber will primarily fill the 1/2 positions with only a little overlap into the 3. Grandison/Da'Monte will primarily play the 3 with a small overlap into the 4. Hawkins will live at the 4 along with hopefully another top PF (Liddell / Mitchell would be amazing). Kofi & Payne will live at the 5 (if Kofi doesn't return then hopefully we land another ready to play 5, because while Payne might be ready to play ~20 minutes I worry about trying to ask him to take on more than that without solid backup).

Underwood is an intense guy. That comes through loud and clear. And he is... ‘demanding’ of his players and staff. But unless a certain behavioral line is crossed (‘way too much’ of this), these are good qualities for a coach to have.

Some people don’t like ‘intense”. Some want laid-back and professorial. Some don’t want to held to high standards. Some don’t want to work hard. And other combos are just are not a good mix together.

What does any successful organization do? Put a good person at the helm that is success-oriented and then get out of their way and let them do their thing.

This is a really interesting fork-in-the-road moment for the Orange Program and Coach. Interesting to see how they handle it (and how some of the ‘back-channel’ conversations are going right now.)

Do you work for McKinsey?

Being a AC in college basketball is like being a gypsy, you move on from teams to learn and network at the next stop. With success brings new opportunities. BU has an opportunity to bring in fresh blood to his program, and build on the momentum that is growing. OA and CC did not hire BU, Brad is the man at Illinois and will bring in good assistants, JW will see to that as well. We are in good hands . Brad Underwood and Josh Whitman did not come to Illinois to lose, that I am certain of

The Chicago network is not as important as it used to be, and will become less important. It's all about prep schools now. High school players with any potential at all are transferring to places like Oak Hill Academy, LuHi and Prolific Prep, private schools that specialize in giving them the best chance of getting recruited to the best/most colleges. Look at our own roster, more prep school grads than ever.
Serious questions - what are these prep schools? Are they just private schools with fancy basketball programs? Who pays the tuition? Are the same as those "prep schools" for students after they graduate high school but before university? Asking for a friend.

Third time's the charm (in coaching)?
Can't find much at all on him in regards to his current career. He has seemed to vanish & those around him don't share much.

Now it's going to bug me until I find out where he is & if he's ok.

I’m referring to the former (and possibly future) Illini men’s basketball assistant coach.
Is he currently coaching anywhere? I tried finding something about what he's currently doing (albeit for just a couple minutes) and couldn't find any info after his medical leave of absence from his brief stint as HC at Butler.
