While he was here, we signed 5 McD AA's, 4 actually played. There were a couple more top 50 guys.

Jimmy and that staff definitely were the real deal.

I count 6 McD AA's (Lowell, Nick, Marcus, Deon, Richard Keene, Jamie Brandon) landed during Jimmy's tenure, with 5 who actually played, along with Top 50 types like Larry Smith, Kiwane, Notree, Gee, Ryan Blackwell, etc.

And that doesn't include NBA first rounders like Ken Norman, Kendall Gill and Kenny Battle.

HAHA!! Irvin joins Illinois as assistant BB coach.

Having a daughter that is in the mix for travel basketball scene, I know that there are a couple of outstanding offers out for girls 2024 players that are on the U17 team. But MIF is not the same thing on women's side, in the state of Illinois, that the mens program is ... at least not today. Consider me amused at the signing in context of men's hoops, but wondering why women's side might have picked this as the strategic Illinois basketball program to prioritize.

You said that...and I forgive you for talking to me that way. Little did you know....you said that to an Army Vet (06/68-06/70.) I forgive you....this time.

The "with" on that "Fight with Fahey" logo should probably be a little more visible.

Sounds about right, except Norman signed with the class of 1982, before Collins, then did one year of JuCo before enrolling.

Question on job posting rules. I believe this is set to make sure minority coaches are considered. If you are hiring a minority, do you still have to wait 7 days?

Jimmy Collins was a stud......depending on ranking sites at the time, he would have signed 2 #1 players in the country over a 3 class period if Ben Wilson wasn’t killed.

1985 - Ben Wilson - Simeon

1987 - Marcus Liberty - King

Should have won one anyways......but would have rolled to NC with Ben Wilson in Champaign.
Wasn’t Jamie Brandon #1 too?

The March 11 1990 show where they opened for Voivod .. had at most 150 people there for the first band up ... some unknowns named Soundgarden.

If you were there we saw history.
Yep, that was it! All three bands were amazing. Went on to see Soundgarden several times and Chris Cornell was just such an incredible vocalist. Saw Nirvana and Jane's Addiction there too, I believe. Many other great shows at Mabel's, Trinos, including some awesome local bands.

I'm just trying to point out that losing a quality guy isn't just no big deal. At some point, it makes some difference... I would love to know how many top 30 recruits Collins, Judson, and Roberts brought to Illinois. I don't remember it being a ton...

I don't disagree that it's a big deal. And neither do BU and JW which is why they did all they could to keep him. It's just that it's not a program crusher.

Other McDonald's All Americans besides those previously listed under the Lou/Jimmy regime:

Lou/Yates = Derek Harper
Lon/Judson = Marcu Griffin, Frankie Williams, Brian Cook
Self/Roberts = Dee Brown, Charlie Villanueva (committed)
Weber/Webster = Jereme Richmond

Lou/Yates: Efrem Winters, Bruce Douglas in 1982.

Audie Matthews was possibly top 25 in 1975.
