That was my initial thought also. Who do you pi$$ of in the Chicago/AAU scene by hiring Irvin and not their guy. It's a no win as far as keeping the peace I guess.
You pretty much have to pick one side or the other. Might as well keep up the goodwill with the side you’ve already chosen.

I'm reasonably sure Kentucky knows their stuff and has enough connections to figure out something that has been sort of an open secret on a free message board.
Kentucky is Kentucky!! A kid who wants to go there doesn’t want to play in Champaign. Chins AAU strengths were not as strong as people think. Many think he was the king because he got Ayo. Let’s remember we hired him from UIC!!!

Was thinking the recruiting battles between Nick and Chin are gonna be really interesting, but as Assistant to the HC, Nick wouldn't be able to actively recruit players, correct? Whereas Chin can recruit players directly. Gray area perhaps?

This. The more I learn about Alexander's background, the more stoked I get. His dad was an outstanding coach. Sounds like the apple didn't fall too far from the tree.
You'll never make everyone in the Chicago/AAU scene happy regardless of who you hire. There is not 'one guy' that would make the whole city happy.

Agreed. Underwood was an AC for a ~million years. If anybody understands what the job entails, it's him. Really happy with the outcome, especially considering the double body blows. Guessing that having a list of legit staff candidates is SOP for him. And I flipping LOVE the power move to trump Chin! That's some big boy stuff there, 4D chess.
Based on the props he is getting, I think he might be player/AD.Can we make Hutch a player/coach?

...and if somehow there was a single person (or even a single coaching staff) that could somehow "make all of Chicago happy" - whatever that means - it would only last until the first time a tough decision had to be made in terms of prioritizing a very limited number of scholarship offers, starting spots, playing time, post-season ticket allocations, etc.
We don't need to conquer all of Chicago - we only need to lock down whatever we have the room for...

Yeah, Alexander is not greater than Gentry from a pure coaching standpoint. But as far as fit goes, your comp is spot on. Gentry is a quirky dude who did not do himself any favors in the locker room here, especially this year.

Remembering back to Kentucky supporter "Big Tim", and saying our coaching staff "should stop lying to players" is somewhat comical now, as it seems the lying/riff was with Chin and maybe not BU. Kinda ironic don't ya think?
