I don't know if this is true or not, but reports like this do not help. Nothing makes a job look more unattractive than a list of candidates who didn't take it.
There’s a show on HGTV called “Love It or Leave It.” The concept is that one of the hosts, e designer, works on the house a family lives in, trying to satisfy the one who wants to move. The other host, a real estate guy, tries to find a house to get them to move.

When they show the reveal of the upgraded house. At least 8, if not 9, times out of 10, even the one who was initially dissatisfied chooses to stay. When things are made more attractive where you are, most people stay.

If you don’t like this metaphor, then redo your beach house and see if you’ll still bet it.

Ah yes, only the CEO builds successful companies
That is what I am saying, in basketball at least. The Head Coach creates the culture that sustains success, and enables highly skilled assistants to contribute to that culture and then the assistants move on. Endless examples of this exist in college sports. So, we are about to find out if Brad Underwood is one of those highly competent CEOs.

I have mainly (ie only) lurked here over the past 8 years (created this account in 2012), and I would consider myself one that drinks the orange kool-aid quite a bit. Do I believe that assistant coaches make a difference, yes I do. However, at the end of the day, whomever we end up with, I believe, will be the right fit for who we have as a team right now. I was a big Weber fan, not so much a Groce fan, but a huge Underwood fan, and have faith that he will get us some good (if not great) assistant's.

I understand your point, but I’m focused on our hiring process, and putting it in perspective. I think we’ve been over the various aspects of our former AC’s choices, and I’m choosing to look ahead, not back. Not bustin‘ your chops though, just clarifying my angle.

This may simplify the process for some, but I don't believe successful team development is quite that linear in nature.

Underwood has built successful programs at every step along the way. Each time with different assistant coaches. Is this a step backwards? Maybe. But history should tell us he will rebuild and keep going.

Mike Boynton and Stephen Gentry would like a word with you.

I think this accurately captures where things currently stand (at least until we see 3 more decommits over the next two weeks).

I can't believe that Erik Pastrana's name is not being brought up. Seems so obvious.
BU might not want to poach one ex-assistant coach (Pastrana) away from another ex-assistant coach (Boynton). They were both on his staff at SFA (Gentry was his 3rd assistant coach there.) Boynton followed BU to OSU and Pastrana went there after BU left.

I do think Pastrana would be a great AC here if it could be worked out.
