I have to wonder about the timing of this. Both being on a Friday afternoon I mean. Big companies, and even the government tend to release bad news on Friday afternoons hoping people don't pay much attention.
I understand the thought. Also, I don't think that we wanted to be without 2 ACs very long. Since Gentry was being announced, almost simultaneously, I am less worried about the timing. From all accounts, this should be a solid replacement for someone that brought value to the team.

Any news?

edit: or rumors?

I think we should be excited that Underwood and Whitman are swinging for the fences on this last hire. CY Young always seemed like a long shot -- why would he leave FSU for anything other than a head coaching gig, which is likely coming soon if he stays put. Same with the assistant from UConn and Huss at Creighton -- they are not far away from being offered head coaching gigs. Chin Coleman improves his chance at a head coaching gig via his association with Kentucky. And I imagine Antigua missed the glitz and glamour of being at a blue blood. So be it. We've added Chester Frazier, who is hungry. And Alexander is a good pick to continue and build on the established culture. Let's be patient with the final pick. I'm confident we will find a good match.

So you're suggesting that Gonzaga's hoping nobody pays attention to their hiring of Gentry?
And are you suggesting their announcement had nothing to do with Alexander's announcement?

Since Gentry is leaving on good terms, perhaps he wanted to allow us the Alexander announcement before Gonzaga makes their formal announcement. I mean that makes sense.

Yeah, there’s been
Said it before and will say it again. There is a character/leadership flaw that Underwood needs to figure out.

Time will tell if it is a major cause for concern, but something doesnt feel right. And its not normal. Mark Smith (Mr. Basketball), Adam Miller (Mr. Basketball) and now all 3 Assistants leaving after the best finish in 15 years isnt normal.
Yeah, the extreme interest in the job as Underwood put it is seeming to be just a ploy by these ACs to get a raise in their current positions.

Yes but at the same time he is from Miami and has its not like he’s making chump change at FSU. He has the luxury of waiting for a HC job before leaving home.
Miami and Tallahassee are about 500 miles away from each other, at least by land. That's like saying that a person is happy in Kansas City because they're from Chicago.

It's an easy flight, sure, but it's still a flight away, at least if you don't want to make a day of the journey.

Also must say that Trent and Damonte came back for 5th year. Also Curbello and Feliz like BU plenty. Ayo and Kofi returned previous year.

Possible homer take, but...

Was it bad that Mark Smith left?

Adam Miller apparently left because a fellow freshmen came in and took over when Miller didn’t.

Gentry left for his alma mater. The other two left for Ken-freakin-tucky. This was after we finished the year as the #2 team in the country (albeit a terrible ncaa tourney appearance).

For this posters who spend their ever waking minute trying to poke holes in the “insiders” on this board, give it a rest. Even if they aren’t insiders or are just guessing I would venture to say that 90% of this board scans to see if they have posted anything. It’s entertainment. If you’re not getting enough attention make something up yourself. I won’t hold it against you.

Or.... good teams replace coaches often and some players are not a good fit. Now if the players go on to great heights I will reserve judgement till then. But haven't seen it yet JCL included.

I think he’s technically right that it is not “normal”. I’d say unusual would be a better descriptor bc “not normal” implies “bad”.

as others explained, each of the transitions have a reasonable explanations .

Tinley Park
Poll (so far) Who we lost vs. who we got. Can losing Chin and the Big O (Gentry I could care less) and recruiting Coast to Coast...not what YOU think but what will the upcoming recruits think? How far (if any) will we "drop off?"
