Tuscaloosa I would say is worst than Champaign (ie Chicago and St Louis vicinity). I learned a long time ago that it is not the landscape that matters ...
but rather the culture, excitement and positive environment that makes the difference. In summary stay positive and exciting and we will be more than good....!
Speaking as someone familiar with Alabama football and just how higr it is, basketball gains are looked as nice, but the recent improvements are doing nothing to change the perception of Bams being a football school. The culture, as related to basketball, is hands-down better at Illinois. And, it isn't close.

I would take Jamall back in a heartbeat. He is a good X and O's guy who really started the change in the defensive philosophy and he understands the recruiting game as well. Gentry would have to be gone for this to even be considered though.

Well, Gentry is gone and the mystery plane is headed to Scottsdale tomorrow...is Jamall Walker next on the list?
So, is CY a definite "no"? Or, can anyone be definitively categorized as a "yes" or "no" at this point, other than OA, Chin, Gentry, Frazier, and Alexander, who are already in place?

To all my brothers in arms and fervent gifologists, I have been suffering with a severe bout of psoriatic arthritis in both hands limiting my abstract thought process to delve into my cosmic mumbo jumbo cesspool of frivolities....
A debilitating condition even the aforementioned meds could not help.
Had a doctors visit this morning and now on road to recovery.

Steroids and first time, for me , high blood pressure meds will have me back in no time.
I have really enjoyed the sense of humor of many of your posts and the gifs are worthy of hall of fame recognition

Well, with the Gentry official departure, our time to hash, re-hash, and mega-hash coaching choices is coming to an end. No doubt the Gentry departure signals the coaching search Endgame is now probably relatively close. I, for one, have enjoyed our time here together. Here's hoping for the best candidates possible to don that one-of-a-kind orange coat.

Agreed on how you felt about him.

But there seem to be a good number of people on here who think Gentry somehow drove a wedge in the coaching staff. In fact, I think our insiders heavily implied it. There was never concrete examples but it seemed like things Gentry did/how he acted pissed other assistants off in some way.
Yes I’m saying it was only the reports of those rifts that led to those conversations from us on the board. Aside from that, before all this started, he seemed like a highly valued member of the staff.

So Illinois UNDERVALUED their assistants... is that how to read losing 3 assistants?

From 2017
"Underwood has $850,000 available to pay his three on-court assistants"

So that's 3 assistants splitting 850k

2021 - I guess we learned something.
assistant 1 - Chester Frazier +500k
assistant 2 - ?
assistant 3 - ?

Poll (so far) Who we lost vs. who we got. Can losing Chin and the Big O (Gentry I could care less) and recruiting Coast to Coast...not what YOU think but what will the upcoming recruits think? How far (if any) will we "drop off?"
i think we could drop off quite a bit.
if you recall it was gentry who came in and analized our play and changed defense from pressing / easy layups for other teams to a more packed in defense.

then gentry re-engineered the offense the next year to take advantage of kofi on pick and roll.

not saying geoff cant manage to pick up where gentry left off but they are huge non recruiting shoes to fill if you want my opine

so far the formula has been this:
find a coach you are interested in
offer him twice his salary
get turned down unless he was an illini grad or already here.

I don’t know that we’ll ever know. I feel like that is something that, in the long run, will not matter and we will probably not be thinking about come winter. After the staff is in place, I really hope we don’t get into this sort of conversation.
Yeah, maybe.

Did they state Alexander’s new salary? Should leave plenty in the war chest for assistant #3, to whatever extent that matters.

The level of intensity over Alabama football is insane. It is inevitable that several violent episodes (sometimes between family members) occur during the Iron Bowl. Auburn had some beautiful oak trees on their campus. Whenever they would win a game, students would congregate around these trees. After Alabama lost the Iron Bowl in 2010, a dude in his 60s poisoned and killed the trees. He became a folk hero in Alabama. I've lived in Kentucky and UK basketball fans are nuts. However, they don't compare to Alabama football fans. Really hard to explain unless you see it.
In contrast, the general reaction to Alabama's basketball season was, "did you hear Alabama is good at basketball this year?"

I've got a few pages to catch up on, but I'm eager to see how we got to War Eaglers vs Tide Rollers.

I agree... Bama always wiil be a football school. Nate Oats is building a program that is exciting on the recruiting trail. Their basketball fanbase will not touch ours for a long time, if ever.
