As long as were dreaming and scheming...how about Robert Smith of Simeon fame?

Most state championships of anyone...(6) and counting I think?

That would have to go a long way to making Chi-town a real pipeline again would it not? Even nationally with Simeon’s clout right? It would have to be a major selling point saying you coached Jabari P. and D. Rose in H.S.

Would he consider it though? In an article from years ago he says he finds it very rewarding where he is. But he would have to consider a move for the right D1 job...and specifically Illinois. I dunno if he meant he would take an assistant position if the price $$ was right or not.

Thoughts??

Definitely not this Robert Smith:

Robert Smith thought he should have been hired as Head Coach of the Illini. Also, you hire Smith, do you alienate the Irvins, Ty Slaughter and every other Chicago high school head coach? A lot of jealousy among that group. Remember Sonny Cox? Other coaches disliked him immensely.

Yeah, you’re probably right. I do remember Sonny Cox at Chicago King. The man definitely had his enemies.

Plus, he has zero high major recruiting experience. That, alone, makes this idea laughable.

Have we considered the Ubben janitors? They've likely seen a decent amount of practices and probably seen a few of Orlando's recruiting notes
I like your thinking, but the custodial buyout is prohibitive

Has anything transpired this week? I'm still repeatedly viewing sacraig's carousel GIF from Monday at 8:03 a.m. Just can't get enough of it and am skeptical that anything else this week has been either (1) of material interest; and (2) superior to it. Happy to be disabused of that notion.

I refuse to believe someone would stain this thread with such a garbage suggestion.

About the same as Juwan’s a few years ago...how’d that work out
You are comparing a former NBA player and Michigan alum coming home to a high school coach that has no college coaching or recruiting experience? Again, how many of the other Chicago high school coaches would accept him? You let him go to another college first and gain some experience, then you bring him on as a third assistant. But I doubt if he would do that because he seriously thought he should be hired as the head coach of the Illini straight from Simeon.
