I have a hard time believing the third AC is coming from the NBA. Are there really any NBA assistants that would blow our minds (in a good way) if they came to Illinois to fill the final spot? None of the ones I’ve heard mentioned in passing on here (Griffith, Randle) would excite me.

If you wouldn't be excited about Adrian Griffin I don't really know what to tell you. He is an NBA champion and has worked with some of the best players in the league.

No coach is going to leave an NBA championship team for an assistant gig in Champaign.

During Alexander's press conference, he clearly never said Chet, but always referred to him as Chester. I think we can put that name thing to rest.
It's like DMac. Nobody in the real world ever called him that. His nickname has always been Meechie.

I literally said when he first came up that there was a very slim chance that he would come to UI when he is close to a HC gig in the NBA

As long as were dreaming and scheming...how about Robert Smith of Simeon fame?

Most state championships of anyone...(6) and counting I think?

That would have to go a long way to making Chi-town a real pipeline again would it not? Even nationally with Simeon’s clout right? It would have to be a major selling point saying you coached Jabari P. and D. Rose in H.S.

Would he consider it though? In an article from years ago he says he finds it very rewarding where he is. But he would have to consider a move for the right D1 job...and specifically Illinois. I dunno if he meant he would take an assistant position if the price $$ was right or not.

Thoughts??

Definitely not this Robert Smith:

Myers Leonard enters my mind with the NBA angle. Pros-can coach the bigs, loyal Illnini, Con-no recruiting experience.

How about central Illinois’ own Jack Sikma? HOF player & 15 year NBA asst coach who just got a ring several years ago coaching the bigs in Toronto.

He also got a ring as a player with the Sonics. That said, I doubt at 65 years old he wants to be on the recruiting trail.
