Why don't they give Marcus Liberty a shot? Didn't he coach Junior College and he would probably have an in with a lot of Chicago coaches.

What's Eddie Johnson doing these days? He's from Chicago and played basketball well for Illinois.

Are we looking at 30 more pages of mental masturbation this week with the position still open come Friday night ?
Seriously. I can only read for 5 minutes (I don’t always last that long if the news is really hot) and then I am spent and can’t pick it up the rest of the day.

You all must be Rookies.

Too late, he just got a new job...Former UConn Huskies coach and 13-year NBA veteran Kevin Ollie has been hired as head coach and director of player development for the Overtime Elite, a new professional basketball league for top prospects between 16 and 18 years old.

More on this new league...The OTE's plan is to offer six-figure financial packages and an academic tutoring component for high school players to compete against prep school and international teams in a year-round training program. These players would lose college eligibility but be able to advance toward the G League and NBA draft in a more basketball-intensive environment. (if they're lucky)

Honestly surprised they didn't give Will Wade this job.... then he could make "strong-*** offers" all the time. They might pay less than LSU though.

If Irvin is no longer in consideration for the Assistant to the Head Coach position how about Deon Thomas? Obvious Chicago ties, coaching experience, can coach the bigs and is a loyal Illini. Cup in place, I'm ready for the backlash.

Didn't he make the statement that he should have been considered for the head coach position when Groce was let go? Also surprised that we haven't heard from Kenny Battle about why he should be given the assistant's job.

Liberty hasn't lived in Chicago for years. He currently runs a basketball training school in Sarasota. Did he ever get his degree? Doubt if Whitman would allow an assistant to not have a college degree.

Joel Goodson - I believe you made a comment about Walker in the past week, something about you would like to see him come back to Illinois. Would that even be possible with Whitman still in charge?

So, people are flipping out because a few of the information elite have mentioned some candidates, who may or may not have actually been considered AC candidates, are no longer in the running. I agree with those who think that the final AC choice will be someone no one has publicly considered. And, unlike some on here, I'm certain that Underwood is right on schedule in his search.
The greater likelihood is that they're not getting the candidates they're trying to hire. It's a key position, so it's hard to imagine that they just haven't started trying yet.

Have heard nothing concrete for the past few days. Brad and co are keeping this under wraps which may not be the worst thing in the world.

No, it wasn't me. FWLIW, I sincerely hope and think we can do better. And, no, I don't think Walker is/was a poor AC.

Ugh, meant to be a response to RJK01.

I have some guesses on who it may be but don't want to do that yet. Still think this does not last much longer.
I agree because recruiting will get rolling again soon. I thought I read somewhere that the dead period ended May 28. If that is true I would think Brad would want his guy in place by then or shortly thereafter.

Two part question for you:

1. East coast, West Coast, South, North, Midwest?

2. Your best guess is that his current position is in the.....
B10
B12
SEC
ACC
PAC10

Will be disappointing to me if no hire by the time the dead period ends on May 28th, and alarming if no hire by the mid-June start of the evaluation period.

Honestly starting to feel odd that BU (allegedly) has received so much interest he cannot return all of his phone/text messages, yet still hasn’t been able to fill the spot. 🤔

Sorry, old age. But thank you for your response and I agree with you. Walker is a good assistant, but I'm hoping for someone a little better.

More quantity than quality perhaps.
