So, people are flipping out because a few of the information elite have mentioned some candidates, who may or may not have actually been considered AC candidates, are no longer in the running. I agree with those who think that the final AC choice will be someone no one has publicly considered. And, unlike some on here, I'm certain that Underwood is right on schedule in his search.
Is that even a feasible possibility at this point?

I know missing on targets feels bad, but I also draw some satisfaction from knowing that other schools are feeling hunted and know they need to aggressively respond to retain their ACs.

Well, to be honest, no one really knows what went down. I'm more inclined to believe Greer wasn't a priority than to believe Dayton outbid us. I'd imagine the fact we even considered him warranted a raise.

I listened to this podcast recently and Jeremy Werner said he really doesn't know fully what's going down - and what candidates have said no or we've passed on.

I didn’t prefer Greer but this is starting to get really frustrating losing out on candidates after candidates.

Also, at this point, we don’t know who is being courted and who is just a rumor on a message board.
I agree that we can't be sure about every name mentioned here (and elsewhere.) I think we can assume that the department has tried to hire coaches, but hasn't filled the position.

Has anyone mentioned Butler assistant Omar Lowery as a speculative target? Bio link

No inside info here. Just looking up names. And not that these elements are essential requirements, but I note that Lowery:
-"works primarily with post players"
-was named to Silver Waves Media 50 Impactful High Major Assistant Coaches List in 2020.
-is from Milwaukee
-is top asst at Butler, a top national program from a conference looking up at Big Ten
-previously coached in Wisconsin, Texas, and California

Honestly, I'm enjoying the speculation surrounding coaching positions as much as I do player recruitments.

Be careful, I got lambasted a couple weeks ago for this same observation.

If he deserved it, good for him. If he was our guy, we should've gone bigger and higher

Assuming we actually had anything to do with this, I don't think your logic is sound. It assumes we (UI) placed exactly as much as or more value in Greer than they (UD) did. But if we thought he was worth, say, $400k, and they thought he was worth $500k, then I am glad we didn't go bigger.

Again, hypothetical. We have no idea if we are even involved here.

I wonder if Greer was even a target? After thinking about it some more, it’s strange that his name was brought up but there was really no chatter from our side about it and than all of a sudden Dayton promotes him to Associate Head Coach.

It's a good find, regardless of whether he's interested / a target, etc.
