So, question on the third AC. It’s been speculated on here that the current AC may still be coaching in the NBA playoffs, but would that really keep a coach from leaving? Just thinking about all of the ACs in college football who get a better job offer and don’t coach a bowl game. Presumably, the AC position at Illinois is more critical to leave unfilled because of the 247 nature of recruiting. And I think an NBA team should get along just fine without one AC. Particularly an AC that’s farther down in the pecking order, which is presumably who would leave for Illinois (ie not a Darvin Ham or Adrian Griffin, who probably make too much money and are NBA HCs in waiting).
The NBA theory makes sense on the surface but not sure it holds up to scrutiny. Hopefully this is all moot soon. Go Illini!
if you’re an NBA AC and you believe your team has a legit shot at a Championship, you’d be crazy not to stick around a few more weeks to share in that victory and add a ring to your resume.
