Interesting struggle comin up........Nebraska Vs WIsky ..who gets the good coach?
I hope the stability of the big ten vs other conferences (minus the SEC) keeps him here.Colorado coaching candidates: Bronco Mendenhall, Troy Calhoun lead options to replace Karl Dorrell
The Buffaloes' coaching search may be one of the most intriguing this cyclewww.cbssports.com
Colorado and Walters. He is too good. He played for them
There may be something to this Leipold thing, but even if there wasn't it would make sense for Wisconsin to try out Leonhard as an interim. For one, if it's an unmitigated disaster you get an easy out. Second, I imagine an interim HC makes considerably less than whatever long term deal Leonhard will get would have him making. They may be looking at Leipold but I think they'd be doing the interim try-out with Leonhard even if they weren't.If Leonhard was a lock, why is he getting the interim tag? Sounds like the big money boys want Leipold. This could backfire. Wouldn't that be a shame?
hopefully neither of them lolInteresting struggle comin up........Nebraska Vs WIsky ..who gets the good coach?
That's exactly what it is. I've listened to a lot of Wisconsin podcasts since Saturday and NO ONE mentions that we actually might be a good team. Just that Wisconsin sucks. #@%& them.Didn’t we also get Dantoni fired. It’s almost like the job requirement is, “Whatever. But if you lose to the Illini, pack your shizzit.”
In a way they're counting on us being a good team. That's exactly what it is. I've listened to a lot of Wisconsin podcasts since Saturday and NO ONE mentions that we actually might be a good team. Just that Wisconsin sucks. #@%& them.
Reminds me of Leopold and Loeb - that did not turn out well. There may be something to this Leipold thing, but even if there wasn't it would make sense for Wisconsin to try out Leonhard as an interim. Fair, but I'm sure a lot of people said the same thing about Underwood/OK St.Strange things happen in college sports but Leipold is only in his second year at Kansas. I think he would do better for himself having a few good seasons and then taking a better job than Wisconsin. I don’t think it would be a good look for him to jump ship that quickly.
I'll honestly be surprised if Rick George hires anybody. His last two coaching hires have not gone well to put it mildly. He's also been vocal about staying with the PAC12 which has to look to boosters like a sure path to irrelevance. There is still a lot of resentment about the move to the PAC12 in the first place.Strange things happen in college sports but Leipold is only in his second year at Kansas. As to Walters Colorado has not been good for a long while and they could be left in the dust during realignment. Would you hire a young guy with zero head coaching experience at this point? I think Rick George wants and needs his own version of Bielema - someone with a proven track record.
POTD for those above a certain age. I've said it often on the Board: if you'd assured me in January 1990 (or in Jan '91 after Barry went 1-10 in his first year there) that Wisconsin would win the BT and the Rose bowl in '93/'94 I would have had to be hospitalized due to convulsions and oxygen deprivation resulting from my disbelieving laughter.I’m old enough to remember when Wisconsin was a doormat and young enough to see it again.
No, frankly. I'm unavoidably biased but no.As to Walters Colorado has not been good for a long while and they could be left in the dust during realignment. Would you hire a young guy with zero head coaching experience at this point?
One must wonder, if rather than on-field performance, there was some off-field thing going on that forced the AD to pull the trigger.Yup, and.that shoe fits. Until proven otherwise, there are now two Nebraskas in the West.
Harsin might be a good pick for Colorado, too. Frankly, if you had told me that Chryst was going to be fired before Harsin, I'd be hitting you up for stock picks right now.No, frankly. I'm unavoidably biased but no.
I've seen Bronco Mendenhall's name get mentioned. I would hire Tom Herman personally.
The uncertainty of what conference they're playing in definitely hurts them. How do you know what staff to build if you don't know if you're going to be in a California-centered league or a Texas-centered league?
(I'm like 92.4% sure the Pac 12 stays together, but the schools are extremely jumpy and panicky and vulnerable to making an irrational decision right now)
I'm so old I also remember when Ioway went 20 years without a .500 record-- but of course I remember the slush fund scandal while I was there too. Or, maybe both of those are a product of my imagination?POTD for those above a certain age. Leonhard makes 1.5 mil a year as DC. That’s his salary for the rest of the year no matter what title he has. Gritty is right Wisconsin is scared to death of losing Leonhard and this gives him the chance to earn the HC job.(which he should given the easy schedule left). Personally I don’t think Leipold is the guy for a school like Wisconsin….academic hurdles would hold him back. There may be something to this Leipold thing, but even if there wasn't it would make sense for Wisconsin to try out Leonhard as an interim. I do, too. BT football in the '70s was largely tedious. Seven weeks of flaccid games (including, with rare exceptions, weekly blowouts by OSU & Michigan.) Then one consequential game the Saturday before Thanksgiving in either Ann Arbor or Columbus. Michigan State was generally the only program within shouting distance of those two teams (and, if you can believe it, Northwestern under Alex Agase in '70-'72.)I'm so old I also remember when Ioway went 20 years without a .500 record-- but of course I remember the slush fund scandal while I was there too. Makes sense, just pointing out that he's almost certainly getting a considerable bump as part of a long term deal as HC, so why give him that now, and pay him a bunch more, when you can just defer that pay bump by a few months? Any employer with that option would take it.Leonhard makes 1.5 mil a year as DC. That’s his salary for the rest of the year no matter what title he has. And the interim tag doesn’t completely handcuff them to Leonhard if for some reason it doesn’t work out.Makes sense, just pointing out that he's almost certainly getting a considerable bump as part of a long term deal as HC, so why give him that now, and pay him a bunch more, when you can just defer that pay bump by a few months?
