Leonhard got blindsided by Wiscy’s AD. Baaaaad mojo for Fick! It will be interesting to see how the students and fans respond after one of their favorite sons gets dumped on by a disrespectful admin. Not a good start in my opinion.

Their AD was Ron Dayne's lead blocker. I think they'll be fine.

That salary list is impressive, and shows what an incredible value Josh is getting us. I fully expect him to keep BB happy, because I think both men buy into a long term goal. I feel like that's rare in coaching, and that Josh and Bret (and Brad) can deliver it.

I didn't know we needed it when Bret was hired, but we clearly needed someone who was fully invested into the transfer portal, and knew how to make it work. I mean let's be honest, his hit rate on transfers who contribute immediately is damn impressive. And I love the fact he sells it during interviews. The guy was a marketing major, and he thinks like one as much as any coach I've ever seen. I would think that makes it easier hiring staff who are going to be involved in recruiting; their HC really gets it, and is part of the solution in recruiting. Very refreshing to see. The results are speaking for themselves.

Sorta hoping this is the start of Wisconsin's Tepper-Turner-Zook-Koening-Beckman-Cubit-Smith-Smith era over the next 30 years.

Let's just call it a "return to normalcy" following a remarkable 40-year run attributable to Barry Alvarez.

Based on what I've seen so far many feel genuinely bad for Leonhard while also being excited about Fickell. If the team succeeds, I have a feeling they'll get over the whole ordeal pretty quickly.

Curious what more Leonhard could have done in his circumstance???

He went 4-3 as a interim with no prior HC experience.

Now he could possibly not even have a job at his alma mater?

Pretty wild to realize that Fickell passed on USC, LSU, Notre Dame and Oklahoma before settling on Wisconsin.
It is crazy. I certainly don’t know Fickell personally. but am very familiar with him going back to his OSU days through the media here in Ohio. I think of those schools, personality wise he fits best at Wisconsin. He would have been bad fits at LSU and USC IMO. He probably would have been fine at Oklahoma and ND, but I just think Wisky is a better fit.

I think Neb will be an easier rebuild than Wisky at this point. Neb fans and players know their record did not meet expectations however they played a lot of close games and could beat Iowa. New coach can sell that

Wisky on the other hand went scorched earth and they had a reasonable season and previous seasons were good. Current coaching staff could easily just resign today knowing they probably don’t have a job. All players and recruits have no connection to the new staff. Also it is hard for Wisky to be good when Minnesota and Illinois are decent. Plus if I am a Cincy player do I transfer for a coach who left before their bowl game and couldn’t wait 3 weeks.

What style will Fickell bring to Wiscy? Uptempo offense? Spread vs WI's longtime pro style?
From Jeremy Werner article:

“[Fickell] wins with fundamental, physical play in the trenches and strong defenses, but he has the modern, dynamic offensive scheme that Wisconsin desires after Paul Chryst’s pro-style scheme got stale.”

I can assure you that he didn't pass on most or all of these jobs. Most of these jobs had him on the list but he wasn't the preferred candidate, so it's tough to know if he would have taken these jobs or not. Only job we're confident he was offered was Michigan State.

It would be great to see some of our rivals suffer as we have with bad hires leading to bad recruiting and years of losses but the coaching hires at this point at least look like good moves for Nebraska and Wisconsin. I feel confident that we have just as good a coach as any in the league to continue to rise and compete. Bret’s strategy to lock down this state has to continue. All the surrounding schools that have done well have done so partially with Illinois kids. Deprive them of that and we have a distinct advantage.

I also agree with the sentiment that the best coaches want to be in the B1G and SEC. I don’t like it but we seem to headed to an NFC/AFC structure for college football. Our improvement couldn’t have happened at a better time.

Was on another message board and saw that the first name this guy mentioned for “best guesses” for next Cincinnati head coach was Bret Bielema.

Just about dropped my phone and would have done a spit take if I had a drink in my mouth.

Guy also mentioned Jeff Brohm and Pat Narduzzi and Scott Satterfield. Why would any of those coaches be a “best guess” for Cincinnati. Absolutely preposterous.

College football’s silly season is underway. The coaching carousel is spinning crazily and players are preparing to explore their options in the transfer portal.
Nebraska (Matt Rhule), Wisconsin (Luke Fickell) and Arizona State (Kenny Dillingham) led the hiring charge by filling their high-profile vacancies.
Ole Miss kept Lane Kiffin, for now, by giving him more than $9 million per year. That’s crazy money -- and he can collect it without having to deal with insane Auburn boosters.
After getting rejected by Kiffin, Auburn had to explore Plan B, Liberty coach Hugh Freeze, and mull the possibility of a Plan C if Freeze’s checkered past creates too much risk.

Freeze has openly campaigned for the Auburn job while at Liberty, where he furthered this reputation as an offensive innovator while trying to shed the considerable baggage from his colorful stint at Ole Miss.
Rhule won big at Baylor, then flopped miserably in the NFL. The Cornhuskers got in early on him after moving on from hapless Scott Frost.
Fickell had been a hot commodity for a while, thanks to his steady success at Cincinnati. Prior to that he was a defensive coordinator an interim head coach at Ohio State.
