Katie doesn’t want to move to California …

Jimmy and family live on 30 some acres … Like I’ve said … It’ll take a nearly perfect opportunity that Katie is on board with … From everything Jimmy has said … This ain’t about money or title to him anymore … It’s about famILLy …
I also find this interesting because a lot of times the coaches just move wherever and you hardly ever hear about the spouse truly having a say. If she’s making her conditions known and he’s on board with it he could be in this role with us for multiple years and I certainly wouldn’t say no to that.

I’d guess spousal say is likely more than we know overall, but, yes, it does seem like this situation isn’t exactly commonplace. Then again the Leonhard’s career and situation seems like they aren’t commonplace either. He had a pretty long NFL career and moved around a fair amount the end of his career — though don’t know if family actually moved each time. They then stay 7 years in one place and he gets close to the top rung of his profession not just as DC for 5 years but a well-respected DC.

Offers for DC probably have come in and will continue to if he doesn’t take the USC, so he’ll options. SoCal is its own animal — maybe not for everyone — and how much stability will he have at USC with Riley not exactly killing it there currently. I wonder if Katie’s “conditions” would be relaxed some for a HC position? Definitely interesting as you say.

with a possible very rare exception , the overall game management skills of a coach can be easily determined if he ever decides to go for a 2pt conversion in the first three quarters of a game

I think big ten to sec is the direction the power 2 coaches would move in for football. Especially Texas sec. The money is literally on a different level here it’s absurd.
Yeah, is A&M a better job than OSU? No. Does it pay more and will they not be dissatisfied with 11-1 campaigns and playoff berths? Maybe yeah.

Could Leonard be our associate head coach next year? With an emphasis on defense. (But definitely not the defensive coordinator)
being Associate head coach is like the Vice President of the US - no authority , job title means nothing, and is all ceremonial

IIRC Illinois had Larry Johnson Sr. all but locked up to come here (as a DC?) but wife said no, so he didn’t.

I went back to check. My recollection was a bit off. In hindsight, it's interesting to think what would have happened if Whitman was there in 2015 for the Beckman firing. I've got to believe that there's no way he extends Cubit. Babers would have been in play at that point.
Babers took over programs that had some talent when he arrived. Rebuilding a program isn't Babers strong suit.

Interesting that Prime and Sapp a U player are teaming up. Seems like they would be better suited from a recruit standpoint being in Florida. CU will benefit slightly going to the Big 12 without UT or OU

The fact he didn’t have a conference to play in going forward … Massive assistant pool … If you’re not in the Big 10, Big 12 or SEC going forward … Good luck … 🤷🏻‍♂️
my comment had more to do with MSU vs openings or potential openings at other schools . signing this early is a little " unusual "
