Paint HATES the portal and NIL world … There will come a time when he is done at Purdue and it’s coming sooner, not later …
The portal is obnoxious but it reeks of hypocrisy to me when coaches complain about NIL while themselves making huge paychecks.

Having said that, I suppose it depends on his specific complaints about NIL.

Beard hired at Ole Miss

My first thought was…something like:
Uh oh, Ole Miss you have incurred the wrath of the morally superior SEC.

My second thought was: As flawed and hypocritical as the SEC is…they’re probably on to something…any other regular job you can think of…and the guy is essentially blacklisted indefinitely. Shouldn’t a so-called institution of higher education at least pretend like they care about precedent?

sadly, there are plenty of ball players in all sports and politicians and on both sides of the aisle that have done worse and nothing happens

Had no idea Wichita St was looking for a new coach. Man that program really fell off the radar. Too late to get back to MVC?

Damon is interesting hire. Very few ex NBA players are successful head coaches. In fact with Juwon imploding at Michigan and Kenny Payne bombing at Louisville I don't know who is left.

He spent 5 years at Pacific but was over .500 one season and never made the NCAAs. He was at Memphis and AZ so he may be well trained for NIL bidding wars.

I doubt he gets the job without his NBA pedigree.

Glamor hire. Analytics would say wrong background and lack of success as HC make him a long shot.

I think what "helps" Ole Miss in this case is that the charges were dropped.

Gregg Marshall was an extremely successful basketball coach, as it turns out though he was not so great of a guy. He was forced to resign due to verified allegations of verbal and physical abuse, including physically attacking players and assistants and shouting racial epithet at players. An assistant, Isaac Brown took over but the basketball results have slipped in his three seasons as Head Coach. So they are hoping to get back on track.

I wonder who St John will go for. Mike Anderson was very successful at Arkansas and Missouri. Pitino would be a disaster.

I think Pitino is definitely going to St. John's, the man is a New Yorker, wants a payday and it's close to his current job. The downside is he's already 70 years old, so I dunno how much energy he has to put into a rebuild or how long he'd be expected to remain at the position.

Respectfully disagree - Pitino is one of the best coaches in the history of the game and is still performing at a very high level. If I was an AD, the first call I'd make would be to Pitino's agent, and the second call would be to increase my offer in the event he turns me down the first time. I don't care how bad the dumpster fire is at St. John's or G'town - they hire Pitino and he will have them in the NCAA tourney by his second year.

one would think so,
but there are only about 10 schools, besides Illinois, Ok St, Ole Miss and USC that the NCAA ever goes after and penalizes in some way .
The others get a slap on the wrist, if that, or just have to say they're sorry and all is forgiven.
