Never saw Nugent. Once caught REO at the Urbana Civic Center. Terry Luttrell was the lead singer.

Concerts attended: Procol Harum, Jethro Tull, the Grateful Dead (twice), John Mayall, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Frank Zappa, Emmylou Harris.

Caught Vassar Clements (hillbilly jazz) at Panama Red's. Saw Pork and the Havana Ducks there too.

Saw Kool Ray and the Polaroids and the Vertebrats at Mabel's

You say that like upheaval is preferred, which I totally disagree with. If Brad Underwood remains here? Fantastic! If the rumors that might lead to Sean Miller being coach instead of Underwood? Fantastic, he’s great.

What would be an unambiguous disaster is if Underwood leaves us and we end up with a lesser replacement. I have every faith in Whitman, but this is at least a remote possibility if we need a new coach. I do not want any haters talking about us “losing a coach,” especially to the likes of KSU or Arkansas. That simply should not happen.
Sorry if that’s how it sounded like. I really hope it works out for BU here and that he will lead this team to greater heights. He’s an excellent coach and a good person. I hope JW sees that and makes the right choice and I believe he will. Sean Miller would be fantastic as well but JW should tread carefully and make the right choice. However, like I said, if BU doesn’t lead this team to greater heights next year or gets bounced again in the first round, I don’t know how much longer JW will wait, just the reality. However, I’m still confident we’ll be fine.

Edit: just saw that Texas is going to offer RT so I think we can put things to rest now and move on.

I fall asleep for four hours and I'm still not sure if everything happened or nothing happened while I was out.
What a weird rumor week.

I guess Terry is not a domino!!!

I feel bad for Miller and Tang. Let us blame the dominoes.

I hope Self recovers to lead KU.

And, Weber has fun being whatever he is doing.

OK. Now the serious stuff. Who is our AD? Who is our MBB coach? Are they, can they, talk? Wondering.

Whitman isn't deluded like a lot of the fans. Illinois has a good history but we aren't at the level of blue blood where we fire our coach for not having enough tournament success.

Won't it be difficult to recruit and get buy-in from players if the HC is rumored to be looking around? Happy to have BU, but situation doesn't seem very stable for the longterm.

Why would it be difficult to recruit?

There is the portal and NIL.

Boosters, players, coaches, and ADs need to figure out how to make it work for exactly one year. Then, reboot.

Yeah, we are done here.

I asked my one half-insider source about all of this on Friday and he seemed pretty certain that Self can’t continue coaching. But until a domino actually drops I’m not going to spend a mi it’s thinking anything further is going to happen.

Hope we can put together a more cohesive team and staff than we had this past year…

Yes we can when a better coach is willing to come. That’s the premise that’s been debated and the BU supporters keep trying to dismiss the nuance and act like people here want BU replaced because he yells too much and hasn’t been to the sweet sixteen.

The reason people are advocating for a change is because concurrent with the rumors started by Illini0440 that BU was searching for a new job even before the season ended there were rumors Sean Miller was interested.

I think most people recognize SM is a better and more accomplished coach than BU. Also, BU is paid as a top 10 coach, but hasn’t performed like one.

All of the BU criticism in this thread must be digested with that context in mind. No one is saying fire BU because he yells and can’t coach in the tournament, or teach his team to shoot free throws, and start a coaching search from square one.

I didn’t realize a Self retirement was on the table but just searching now found this article from 2017 as fodder for discussion.

“I’ve said all along that if I could go into may late 50s, that’d be good for me. Now that I’m getting close to my late 50s, I’m like, ‘Well. …’ But my contract runs until I’m 59, so I’ve got five more years left. I definitely want to do that. Then whatever happens after that, I’d be happy with whatever.”

I have a question for @LvilleILL. You have been the most consistently confident that Texas would be hiring Terry full time and that Brad will be the Illini coach next season, despite other insiders bringing up the increasing possibility of Brad moving on.

Was your confidence that Brad would be back based more on that you did not see a path for the dominos to fall in a way that would end with Brad leaving for another job? Or did you feel like the growing frustration between Brad, the boosters and Josh was being overblown? Or both?

Just curious because I think it was a unique experience for us on the board to see insiders feeling so differently about the direction the rumor winds were blowing.
