Weber is a washed up failure of a coach. He probably couldn’t get a job coaching a Rec league.

Although…

1x NCAA coach of the year
1x Big 10 coach of the year
1x Big 12 coach of the year
1x Missouri Valley coach of the year
2X Big 10 champ
2x Missouri Valley champ
2x Big 12 champ
13 NCAA tournament appearances
2 sweet 16s
1 elite 8
1 NCAA runner up
497 regular season wins
He also was a pretty darn good funeral director 🙂

Some were highly rated but awesome, not so much, and it worked for a while at KSU, didn't it?
3 NBA players on the team that got him fired here.

Then he was very lucky to get that K-State job and once again inherit a high-quality veteran roster that knew how to be a college basketball team and who he only needed to provide the game planning vision.

He did eventually find another critical mass of well-scouted gritty guys who fit what he wanted to do at K-State, but only briefly.

He never found the fit here, he was always caught being his own worst enemy after he'd lost that initial group of players he connected with.

Plenty for him to be proud of in his career, but I doubt he ever gets back into it, at least at the top level.

The supremely important choice of Head Coach has just been proven again... this time in the Women’s Game. Kim Mulkey created a powerhouse program at Baylor and won three NCAA championships. LSU went out and got her... and she just brought a title to LSU – their very first.

There is really something special about a coach who has a plan... who connects with players... brings out the best in them... and who knows how to win regardless of where they are. A rare and amazing gift. And fortunate for the programs that get them.

LSU donors always paid big bucks for players way before NIL. I am sure she made certain that she had a blank check for players when she took the job.

Yep … If Self calls it a career, then it’ll be Oats …

Oats is also about to hire a major Big Ten assistant to his staff …
Can you share a name? I am a huge Bama/Illini fan so very interested who that might be since they lost Brian Hodgson and Charlie Henry so far.

Since it doesn’t impact us and hurts someone we hate … Sure …

Saddi Washington is who I was told … Not a done deal yet but it’s who Nate wants …

Also - big fan of Hodgson … We’ve been friends for a long time … Excited to see what he does at Ark State …

Connection with Washington and Oats. Washington was a volunteer coach for Oats at Romulus Senior High School.

And there are indications that we may have gotten one ourselves in Coach Green. We will see...

If Nate oat’s agent called Michigan state and said he’d take that job right now but if declined, he’d take the Kansas job(if self retired obviously). Would you fire Izzo if ur the MSU Ad?

I think that's actually a helpful hypothetical.

Can you see how much less appealing of a job for Oats it would be if MSU just canned Izzo for no reason to open it?

Being supportive of your coaches and having a rational relationship between resources and expectations makes your job better.

Whitman does this well.

No, I'd want to, but I'm not firing a guy that brought me a National Championship, 8 Final 4s, and 10 Big Ten Championships. He gets to retire on his own terms.
