Have you tried watching a game on Big Ten plus? It is a horrible experience. Hopefully that won’t be their solution

Also with the west coast teams coming into the conference, basketball games could start later than 11 pm east coast time. A game could possibly get done around 1 am.

A 9 pm east cost time tip off should be the latest an east coast team should start a game and a 3 pm east coast start time should be the earliest a west coast team should start

Conference leadership needs to ensure fans still can enjoy a good product otherwise viewership could decline
I have watched B1G Ten+ so far for Women's Illini VB & Basketball and thought it was an excellent broadcast visually but announcers could use an upgrade.

It's $10 now because it's not a monopoly. Yet. At some point the B1G will be the sole owner/distributor of their media rights. When you can't see it anywhere else but through a B1G membership it will get a lot more expensive.
Well then, it will be a full tank of gas or more or going out to eat twice or more for the ENTIRE Season. There are also replays of memorable Illini games from the past as well.

Its the MTV principle.
We need to go back to the era where you could flip from World's Strongest Man on ESPN2 to Yo MTV Raps on MTV.

Maybe I haven't done enough research or am not as informed, but why are we upset about expansion? By adding these teams won't the end result likely be at some point a schedule that is league play only except playoffs? And if that's the case and there's 24ish teams wouldn't we rather see an August games against the likes of Clemson and Oregon instead of UTSA?

I know it's more nuanced then that, but I'm cool with adding some big time names and hopefully moving to a schedule that's mostly within the conference.

I can understand why some/many are excited at this development. I have to say though, I am disappointed in the sense that these Pac 12 schools are on the path to complete irrelevance if they are going to be exclusively on an Apple TV add on package. There's just no way I will ever justify buying that, which means I'll really never get to see those teams play outside of bowl season. A night game in SLC, or an afternoon game at Autzen are absolutely great television. Not getting to see that because this shell of a conference is going to stick together behind a paywall is a hollow victory.
Just to note, MLS's Apple deal allowed them to also make a deal with linear TV for a selection of the same games.

ESPN bailed out of agreeing to that because of the lack of exclusivity, and Fox paid way less money than when MLS was selling those games exclusively, but they do have a bunch of games on network Fox and FS1 that are ALSO streaming on the Apple service.

I'm sure the same is the case for the Pac 12, and the nitty gritty of how that would work and what kind of linear distribution is out there is I'm sure what the discussion about keeping the conference together hinges on. Bad money and bad visibility is too much. But if the money gets a little better at 8 than it would have been at 10, and there's enough TV real estate to keep 8 mouths happy?

They're looking for a reason not to fold one of the historic brands of American sports, that seems clear. God bless them.

If accurate this would be a pretty interesting move. Especially if AZ is officially gone to the Big12. An 8 team PAC-12 that’s only on Apple? Signing onto that seems insane. I’m not sure any brand has the ability to withstand that. You mentioned MLS the other day @ChiefGritty. MLS had everything to gain and soccer is a global sport. Maybe it draws eyes during the off-season of the bigger leagues because people just like soccer (plus the Messi effect). I have serious doubts anyone will be watching PAC-12 football on Apple in any kind of serious way. Not with the schools they have left in that conference.

"The Trojans were adamant with the Big Ten that they did not want to be followed to this exciting opportunity by their Pac-12 brethren. They singled out a specific school they found to be most distasteful.

If the Big Ten thought it had to add Stanford or Cal or Washington, USC could probably live with it. But not Oregon. No, no, no. Anybody but the Ducks. That preference, shared by UCLA, was certainly understood, and the L.A. schools hoped it would be honored, a source with knowledge not authorized to speak publicly told The Times."

Pretty interesting. Didn't know about this (although it makes sense), and helps to explain some of the foot-dragging.

I wonder what Maryland thinks of Oregon joining as well. Are they still tied up with UA (i know there was some issues there in the past, but not sure where they are now). I'm sure UA wouldn't be a fan of the likes of Oregon joining the fray.

I'd personally be more in favor of a Stanford or even a Cal, personally over Oregon or even WU. You get the next biggest market on the west coast, academic powerhouses (which, yes, obviously a distant 5th or lower in the priority of things in the new world order of collegiate sports), and lock up the whole state. Apart from Nike (which i get the appeal there), there's not much from Oregon that i find terribly appealing.

I still have mixed feelings about my Ducks joining the B1G (if that’s even a thing anymore), but here at my thought atm:
- eff UCLA
- eff USC
Whiny lil’ b!t&3$

To single out one team (as the newbies) and try to dictate the fate of another school as a condition of entry… I hope the rest of the B1G embarrasses them at every turn.
