Lol.

Money. It's not complicated.

Good news is that autonomous cars are going to take the bite out of so.e of this misery in the next 20 years.
You are correct that money/demand are the reasons that there is not a connection. I have a problem with asking a pseudo-rhetorical question from time-to-time and it sounds like I mean it.

Just curious . . . how many votes will be required to bring that about? I can't imagine anyone except the "top 8" voting for that.
not sure

but these conference deals are usually set up where it’s really hard to get in and even harder to get kicked out .

i’m guessing it’s a 3/4 vote or more to get removed

so maybe this has been covered, but do 18 teams put us back into a 9 team division set up? east-west plus
rotating match ups? has anybody talked about that?

Cascadian regionalism is pretty strong. We don’t get noticed as much because East Coast media considers us “South Alaska” and not worth considering.

But its here.

Regionalism remains strong in the southeast and in Texas. Strong cultures each. The rest of the country, not so much. I've been interested during the 35 years since I graduated from UIUC how those I know (from school and otherwise) who migrate from the Midwest, Northeast or, increasingly over the past 20 years, California to those strong-culture regions adopt in general, and quite happily, the prevailing culture. Americans who emigrate regionally are extremely adaptable in that way. I have a former colleague form 25 years ago who ended up via mergers in Phoenix around 2005. He and his wife were hard core DC/NYC natives who didn't want to move. They embraced the Valley of the Sun and have no desire at this point to leave, though their kids are grown.

As I've grown older I've come full circle back to my Midwest roots, though I left for good in 1990. Whenever someone asks where I'm from I say "Ohio and Illinois." Those are the places that formed me. They're indelibly who I am. Everywhere subsequently has been a residence. Perhaps I'd feel differently if I'd moved to Texas or Atlanta.

If the powers that be ($$$$) someday determine that some super-league of the top 10 or 12 teams makes financial sense, then it will happen.

That super league would be dynamite in football, but might get only the automatic bid in basketball. 😉

Ohio State
Michigan
Penn State
Alabama
LSU
Notre Dame
USC
Texas
Oklahoma
Georgia
Clemson
Florida

(sub Nebraska or Florida State for any two as necessary)

When do you think players will start demanding their share of the $50 million a year media payout.

That amount doesn’t include bowl game, ncaa tournament, or ticket sales

TBF, the East Coast media don't consider much beyond the East Coast. And Hollywood. Maybe Silicon Valley. Many of them aspire vaguely to visit America someday but the process of securing a passport is tedious and puts them off. The smoke from Quebec drifted down to NYC and DC this spring and it was all OMG!!! FOREST FIRES EXIST!!!! THE SKY IS VAGUELY ORANGE FOR TWO DAYS!!!! THE WORLD IS ENDING!!!!

BTW, I admit I laughed heartily at the PAC4 parody site. And then kinda hated myself. Those poor four-lorn schools. There but for the grace of God, and proximity to Chicago, go we.

I might be old school, but I am not a fan of the expansion. I know it's a sign of the changing landscape of college sports and is a powerplay to chase the almighty dollar (or a lot of dollars in this case.) I also know this will financially benefit Illinois, as well as all the other schools.
With all of this going on, I can't help but think back 40-50 years. I fondly recall the traditional Big Ten/ Pac Ten rivalry. I remember when making it to Pasadena was all that mattered. I remember the excitement the fans of the Big Ten schools felt when their team made it to "the granddaddy of them all". Seeing the Midwest fans, with their sunburned faces and arms, enjoying the sunny and warm weather. It didn't matter if their team lost. It was a day they would remember for the rest of their lives.

I guess I'm just tired of this commentary: [Insert latest development here] is just the latest sign that conferences are choosing [insert thing I don't like here] over [insert the thing I do like here].

College football today is not what it was 20 years ago. Twenty years ago it wasn't what it was 20 years prior to that. So on and so on. I have a feeling if it were up to some people in this forum we'd still only be handing the ball off. My hope is that 20 years from now everyone that's already halfway off the ledge has taken a step back, takes a look back and realizes that this "latest catastrophe" didn't ruin football any more than the forward pass did 100 years ago.

College football is going to be fine.
The Big Ten is going to be fine.
Illinois is going to be fine.

Just relax and enjoy the show.

Yep, you’re either growing, or you are the PAC4.

Went to the Rose Bowl with the MI. This is correct.
My wife wants to go to the Rose Bowl to help decorate the Lutheran Hour Ministries float. Missed the 84 game (just graduated and was broke) and the 2008 game (my son's high school marching band played at the Cotton Bowl halftime, so we were in Dallas). Might as well go as its doubtful we will ever be playing in it again.
