How are we determining they will have bigger TV deal from 2030 - 2036 than the Big12 when that deal is yet to be determined. Either way, I think that has zero to do with the calculation at this point & it is about picking the best bad choice moving forward for a couple schools that have no good options on the table. I would be willing to bet that if the Big 12 was on the table they would jump hard and fast. The logistical absurdity of California schools in the ACC notwithstanding, and acknowledging the watered-down TV revenue they will initially receive, they now have a rosier revenue picture from 2030-36 than the schools that jumped to the Big 12.
Maybe in the before times. But there's not an iota of anything but self interest in the current environment. It's a giant game of musical chairs. That's rich.

So hard to predict, but his point is valid. The way football scheduling has worked, mid-tier and lower-tier programs have been useful in the scheme of things. Doesn't mean that will always be the case, although I expect the 12 team format to the playoff will help. The current deal runs to 2030, but they'll start negotiating at least a year or two out, and that's when the numbers will start to push things along.Tate | A seismic shift is coming to college football ... eventually
The next five to eight Illini seasons could be the most critical in the school's historywww.news-gazette.com
I would imagine, the key here is putting to rest the idea of WSU/OSU tagging along. Feels like Stanford/Cal are going to keep lowering their price until someone bites. No ACC to getting us for free? Okay, Big 12, how about taking all 4 of us? No. Okay, how about just Stanford/Cal? What, you want us for free? Okay, that is still worth more than the 6 mil we would get from the MWC...
One has to think there will be a consolidation to what, maybe the top 48 schools for football? We need to just keep winning, and improving the fan experience, and we should be able to be a consistent top 15-25 team in both the polls and media eyeballs. So hard to predict, but his point is valid. I get I’m in the minority having very little interest in some Purdue rivalry, but I really wish there were a way we could have a protected matchup with Iowa.
I like the 10-game setup in this video. It's set-up so all pre-1955 rivalry trophies are protected and no one had to protect both Ohio St & Michigan (or Ohio St & Penn St).
Oh, I knew. Though I’m a native Peorian and current Chicagoan, I lived in Iowa City from 1998 to 2019.Did you know that we didn't play Iowa from 1953 to 1967 (?)... Because of an incident at their stadium throwing bottles etc., at the players and the refs.... There is NO LOVE lost between Illinois and Iowa... believe me...
Time to dust off the old IlliBuck Trophy.I like the 10-game setup in this video. It's set-up so all pre-1955 rivalry trophies are protected and no one had to protect both Ohio St & Michigan (or Ohio St & Penn St).
We had Northwestern, Purdue, & Ohio St. I'll take that.
For how lopsided the actual series record is and the proverbial OCEAN that separates the historic pedigree of our two programs … that was a damn underrated rivalry in modern times!! I believe we still have like a .500 record in Columbus since the 1980s, and even in some years where we lost we gave an undefeated OSU some serious scares (2002 and 2006).Time to dust off the old IlliBuck Trophy.

What a strange criterion for them to be discussing, especially with regard to Stanford and Cal. I would have assumed those schools would be really good at adding.

So as of today, seems like the PAC4 champion still has a ticket to playoffs... would they have the heart to take that away in the next few years? No change to the CFP until conferences carve up the ACC .... err, the "dust settles" in conference realignment.
