I prefer to win the division and get home field advantage in the first round . not sure the match up of teams matters that much .
at this point , I feel pretty confident saying we will be in the playoffs. potentially getting two games at home is important , imo

The functional difference between the first wild card and the third division winner is practically nil. I guess I’d rather win the division and play the first round against whichever of the Marlins, Reds and D-backs eke into the playoffs than be the first wild card and have to play the Phillies, but I don’t think it’s that big a deal.
Assuming Urias is out for the rest of the season, maybe getting the Dodgers instead of the Braves in the divisional round would be better, too.
But no matter how it shakes out, the Cubs will basically have even odds against their wild card round opponent and then be heavy dogs in the divisional round.
Finally caught it.
In the wild card round, the higher seed hosts all three games. Would be big to catch Milwaukee or Philly and host the games.

Trying to find the reference, but I believe I heard that, if they make the playoffs, the Cubs would be only the 4th team to be 10 games under as late as they were to eventually make the playoffs.
Edit: This article from July says that only four teams in the Wild Card era have made the playoffs after having a losing record at the All Star Break. The Cubs would be 5th. Also note that the Cubs were not one of the 6 teams that were then out of a playoff spot that the article said could surge its way in.

I don’t understand pulling him out after 6 innings and 77 pitches. He could’ve easily gone 8, maybe 9.
The Dbacks are my #2 team, so silver lining for me is this helps the chances of both teams making the playoffs. But let’s win the next two please.
I understand that they want him to leave with a successful outing but I agree with you. That way you could avoid the Cuas/Leiter inning. I know Cuas has been better than expected but I still don't trust his control. Either way, however, you have to score a run to win and it's difficult to score when the win is blowing in and you don't even get a guy in scoring position all game.

As bad as Tauchman has been over the last month (.482 OPS since Aug 11), there is absolutely no reason for him not to be playing CF every day from the drop.
