The most frustrating thing is that the pitching that the Cubs have been facing has been terrible all year but they have looked hapless against them.
Facing another Cy Young candidate tonight: Zach Davies.

He mowed us down 1-2-3 easy as you please in the 1st. He looks like someone I could hit and i haven’t played in 50 years. Sheesh.

tough loss tonight. need to stop this losing streak tomorrow. unfortunately only own tiebreaker over giants for wild card spot so can't end season tied with Arizona, Miami or cincy and get in

Yep, I feel like the playoffs went from feeling like a sure thing to a dwindling hope over the course of the last week and a half. Seems like the teams we’re competing with are all getting hot right as we’re doing the opposite. And we still have to play at Atlanta and Milwaukee to end the season. I don’t love the idea of a playoff berth coming down to those two series. We absolutely need to win today and then take advantage of our last home stand against the Rockies and Pirates (feels like we need at least 5 out of 6).

the downside of those home games against pittsburgh and colorado is we tend to struggle against the patsies. We have played pittsburgh well though.

i guess the worst thing that can happen is we don’t make the playoffs. Disappointing but life goes on. Ultimately, who cares.

pretty much my take

I am much more emotionally invested in the Illini revenue sports ever since Cubs won in 2016 . That burden has been lifted for awhile

Cubs MAY win some games, the Illini probably will. I think the Bears are shooting for the most losses ever in an NFL season, that being 1
They have surpassed their previous franchise record for most consecutive losses (8) by 4 losses. They have a legitimate shot at that NFL record.
Don't worry...The Blackhawks and Bulls will be good.
On the bright side, the Sox must go 6-6 to avoid 100 losses.

Does Ross actually try to bat Morel in the most inappropriate slots in the lineup ? And is Wisdom starting because it MIGHT be the one game in every 2 or 3 weeks that he makes contact and hits a HR?

I heard yesterday that the Bears were the first NFL team ever to lose 12 in a row while giving up 25 points or more in every game. So we got that going for us.

No you don't. This team isn't a pimple on 69's behind. Compare the rosters. This team didn't lead anything for most of the season.
If you don't believe me ask some other grandpas.
I believe you. I was 8 yrs old in ‘69. I wasn’t implying that this team is comparable to the 69 team, just to go from playoff hopeful to playoff nopefull.

2004 and 2019 are the seasons this is reminding me of. Difference is, the big losing streaks those seasons happened during the last two weeks of the season and the team never had a chance to recover. With 12 games left, this year’s team has a chance to pull out of it.

2001 a bit too, but that team started losing earlier and the losing lasted longer.

I don't know what caused the 1969 collapse but it was epic-bad. Cubs did have a very good team - Santo, Williams, Banks, Beckert, Kessinger, Jenkins, Holtzman, etc.

Arguably the Mets were the worst of the four teams that made the playoffs that year (Braves, Orioles, Twins). Baseball is not fair sometimes.

The Phillies had a major collapse in 1964, IIRC.

and not Nebraska
besides that , how was the play Mrs Lincoln ?
Too soon!
As a White Sox fan my reaction to this season is more like Lincoln's last words. "This play is so bad I wish someone would shoot me."
