In other news, Marquee has finally announced their in market direct to consumer streaming service. (yay!)
It appears to be $20/month. (boo!)

That's better than I expected. The Yankees are $30/month.

It works out to ~$120/season. That's cheaper than an annual Amazon Prime subscription.

Now that Marquee is available independently of a cable subscription and they’ve run fiber optic down my street, I need to do the math and see if Marquee + Max + Peacock + Fox Sports + fiber optic Internet is more or less than my Xfinity subscription, which comes with all of the above.

Yes Network subscription is $25/month, or $20 if you caught the pre-season promo rate. They offer coverage of Yankees, Nets, and Liberty.
MLB.TV streaming service is $25/month, or $150 for the whole year for every single out of market game.
I am probably just bitter after a lifetime of living in the Cubs "in market area" but outside of Chicagoland and dealing with incessant blackouts so please don't take my negative tone as an attack, but I feel that they are continuing the trend of holding their captive in market but outside of Chicagoland fans over a barrel. Peacock Plus is only $11/month and has the entire Premier League and WWE catalog for goodness sakes. [end rant]

Lol what? This team lacks star power. The cubs are the 3rd most valuable team and charge the 2nd highest ticket experience. I can stomach 7/210 easily.
7/210 will look horrible in 2026...

Here’s my thing tho… what other impact free agents are the Cubs realistically going to sign? The cubs are a big market. Time they act like it
I have no idea who's on the market after this season. I don't disagree about their spending but spending just to spend is bad policy.

There is nothing last season was the year to spend and they say on their hands. I agree it’s not worth spending to spend. But damn they are 13th lol

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on signing Bellinger to a long term contract.
I just think the cubs should act like what they are. Private network, sports book, historic stadium, renovations galore. This isn’t Cleveland. It’s time they spend like the organization they are. Cause right now they are ripping off their fans because they know they will show up regardless

I agree with many of your comments , but
while spending money WISELY will often get you 90 wins and into the playoffs , Tampa has proven it’s not necessary all the time

What has Tampa won? They get to the playoffs and fall short to the bigger markets each year. I get your point but 6 of the last 7 World Series champs were in the top 10 in payroll when they won. Last year the Phillies, Padres, Yankees, Astros were all in the top 8 in payroll. I just think it’s much harder to win playing the rays strategy than the Phillies.

Kris Bryant back to the IL with a broken finger. The deterioration of Kris Bryant has been hard to watch.

From 2015-2019, he slashed .284/.385/.516, 138 HRs in 706 games, 25.0 bWAR, Rookie of the Year, MVP, World Series Ring and 3 All-Star games. BR's top comparable player through his age 27 season was Jim Thome. A clear Hall of Fame trajectory.

From 2020-2023, he has slashed .261/.346/.440, 42 HRs in 285 games, 3.7 bWAR, 1 All-Star game (in 2021 where he OPS'ed 1.017 in April and May, then .732 from June to the end of the year). BR's top comparable player through his age 30 season is Geoff Jenkins.

Cubs made the right choice to trade him

Unlike, say, Javy, who was always a roller-coaster ride and had some very problematic characteristics to his game at the plate, it's very difficult to understand what has happened with Bryant.

Everyone I’ve heard talk about him says he’s soft as baby…. Just a Cali dude with no desire to play through anything.

I thought that was a pathetic effort by the White Sox last night. Anderson's nonchalance on the error before Swanson's first homer was particularly egregious. Not to mention the Cubs stole second base all night. Two bad it's only a 2-game series. Of course they probably lose tonight after I post this.

I don’t generally ascribe too much importance to rah-rah, hustle, grit stuff. I think that over a 162 game schedule, raw talent and skill will win out over hustle and emotion the vast majority of the time.

That said, last night certainly looked like two teams that weren’t all that far apart in talent level, where one team was desperately trying to stay in the playoff hunt and the other already wanted to pack it in.

Post-London Stroman is not the same pitcher as pre-London Stroman. Hopefully the teams with whom we are having trade talks are focusing on the pre-London pitcher.
