Elijah Thomas transfers to Clemson

It's one thing to crean a guy at the end of the season, it's another to do it in the middle of the season which is what we'd have to do to get him.

IF IF IF Thomas was wanting to transfer to Illinois, Groce could tell Nichols he needs to greyshirt and not enroll until May. But that's the only scenario I can see where we have room for him in December.

Visions of Alex Legion have me thinking this should be a pass, even if for some reason he wanted to come here. If you can't stick out the year when it's your first year in college, it's kind of a red flag about your toughness and commitment.

What about his togetherness?

Elijah Thomas to transfer from Texas A&M

I'm sure Finke would pay his way for a year [emoji6]

Isn't Mike LaTullip on scholarship now?

Negative. One of Abrams, Nichols, or Thorne would have to not be on scholarship for the spring. Assuming it doesn't work that way for Abrams or Thorne barring them leaving school that leaves Nichols. Obviously also could have a mid-season transfer but that also seems extremely unlikely consider the amount of tick everyone is getting. Most disgruntled player I guess could be Tate but he can only blame himself for his struggles.

Possibly. But there could be many other reasons. Definitely one you want to understand well as a coach. Does anyone remember that first semester away from home? Lotta things can happen, and not all translate to having weak character, or being a malcontent...especially in the world of modern collegiate sports.

From what I've read, the fanbase there want him to stay, and think he has a very high ceiling. I can't say I would turn him down.

I was never a huge fan of Thomas, but with our lack of quality big man on the roster, and the uncertainty if Throne will play at Illinois again, he would be a huge pickup.

Yep, midseason transfer is the only way. I'm usually pretty optimistic but I feel like people are setting themselves up for disappointment by thinking we have a chance.

"Hey Kipper, remember that scholarship we talked about? Yeah we're going to need that back for another semester. " [emoji4]

My guess is he already knows or has a pretty good idea where he's going,

Not saying he's coming here. But two days ago he favorited a tweet that I had sent him pro Illini before he made his decision.... Hmm

Things haven't really worked out for our highest profile big man misses....

Small sample size, but still odd.

Not necessarily. If the thought is he would have to sit the first semester of next year anyway (which is entirely possible given the NCAA), it might not be a very big deal for Nichols to start his tenure as a scholarship athlete in the fall. The difference between him and ET is ceiling. Gaining that extra half semester could mean a good deal for a player like Nichols when he is a SR. You don't envision that with ET as he has a good bit of pro potential so only playing 3 years instead of 4 is less likely of a hindrance for his future earnings potential. Under this scenario Nichols sits all of 2016-2017 and starts essentially as a RS Fr in 2017-18. A lot of time not playing competitive ball for Nichols but may be best for his future.

Decent shooting for Elijah early, but man, it looks like even Leron could give him some lessons about avoiding foul trouble.

I dunno how to paste his stats in here, but Elijah is averaging 9.5 minutes per game and an impressive 2.875 fouls per game.
