The Lopetegui hire is probably as solid of a hire as West Ham could make. He's an enigma in some respects - absolutely tore through World Cup qualifying with Spain, and I think it was a major mistake to fire him when he had only agreed to take a new job after the World Cup was done in 2018. But Real Madrid was obviously a disaster and he had a spotty record with Wolves. But for a period of time at Sevilla, he was successful.Former Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui named as David Moyes' replacement at West Ham.
Bayern Munich close to a deal to hire Burnley manager Vincent Kompany as Thomas Tuchel's replacement.
The Kompany hire (assuming it goes through - with Bayern, I have no idea if they know what they're doing right now) is the ultimate high-risk high-reward move. I think he'll actually do better in a top league with better talent, but I'm not sure if he has a Plan B. It probably wouldn't have mattered with Burnley, but he doubled down on his playing model despite the consequences. He could be another Arteta, or he could be a total disaster at Bayern. I think everything depends on how some of the veterans at Bayern view him as a relatively recent former player. That could be a benefit (hey, he knows what we're going through!), or it could be a major detriment (what in the world does he know about management when he's not that much older than we are?).
